I like the idea of them and it seems like quite a practical way of keeping your hands clean. I guess you've just got to get into the habit of using one.

I have one on my bike and I use it occasionally. I can't say I'd miss it if it wasn't there. In fact I think I use it most when packing my bike in a bike box as it keeps the chain nice and taught and stops it flapping around.

I'm riding LEJOG starting on the 24th of Aug and need to sort my headset out as I want my chosen steed rolling as steady as possible . It's already upside down to extend the life somewhat.
It's of a late 2000's Trek 1200 SL and it's an Adeadset type with 1 1/8 steerer tube.
Can someone link me a couple of links for replacement headsets at different pricepoints as direct replacements please as I'm a bit lost with all the options?

Unless upsidedown is going faster than I think, he won't need to worry about compressibility, so he just has to adjust his speed in the pool to achieve the same Reynolds number as he has in air at cycling speed to get useful results. Unless somebody tips a few tons of cornflower into the pool and turns it into a non-Newtonian fluid

I was going to write cornstarch, obviously my mind never got into gear properly while translating into British English.

What's the point of crossing over gear cables under the downtube, as advocated by some?

Is it purely to achieve a smoother entry for the housing by having it cross the HT and enter the cable stop at a gentler angle?

Mostly it is to stop the cable outers rubbing on the frame, and it makes a simple shallower curve in the cable run.

The two catches are; 1) available on the kindle (ideally cheap), and 2) interesting enough to hold an adults interest.

My dad recommended Hemingway's short stories as the English is fairly simple so the Spanish should be. Unfortunately I've had no luck finding any kindle versions.

Not Don Quixote. I made that mistake. A modernish Spanish translation of a 12th century translation of a story written in an 11th century dialect put me off learning Spanish for a very long time. I might just have well tried to learn English by reading Beowulf.

I don't know if you get them on kindle, but when I was learning French I bought a few books that have the english and french translations on the opposite pages so it's really easy to look across and get a better understanding of the language or a word if you don't know it. Pretty sure you can get them in Waterstones and they tended to be classic short novels so gives a good introduction to the literature.

Failing that, I'm sure that Harry Potter's been translated already...
