  • What year (roughly) were allan nut brakes introduced? Trying to date an old Saracen Road frame, assuming that its early 80s but wondering if I can get any closer than that

  • Anyone have APC depot contact details for London City?

Order something yesterday for next day delivery, yet it's nowhere to be seen. Sitting here in the office waiting but it's getting a bit fucking late ya know?

  • Was out riding with a friend earlier today. He took a spill, his front Reynolds Attack wheel took a knock and is no longer true.

I've only worked with metal rims but can you true a carbon one in a similar/same way? Does he need to find a local dealer to sort it?

  • Anyone got a black Thomson x2 6 or 10 degree 100mm going spare?

  • Mavic 520 pista hubs have standard lock ring theads don't they? I ask because the stainless mavic lock ring I have before me will only do a 1/3rd of a turn

  • New or used hub? [could have been re-threaded after use of wrong lock ring - try a normal threaded lock ring and see if you get further than 1/3 (hand turn only!)]. Don't know if this picture tells you anything http://static.lfgss.com/attachments/56568d1343736639-img_7281.jpg

  • I was gonna suggest trying another one and seeing if you had any joy.

  • I'll try a cheapo alu one, the thread look clean and clear which is why I thought it was odd. I know that stainless can be a bit 'aggressive' so that might the issue

  • It could be that mavic stuff is just very 'closely thread' both pairs of starfish cranks I've put pedals on put up a fight.

  • Put some grease on the threads and slowly move it backwards until it "beds", then slowly forward.
Apologies if this is obvious and has been done.

  • You probably can't, Kukri's business model seems to be exclusively B2C

That seems to be the answer. Ta.

  • wheres the thread this goes in

  • wasnt there one specifically for flouro :/

  • First question: What is the name of the small braze on, on the rear drive side chain stay that is designed to hold the chain while you are changing wheels?

The old on-one pomps used to have them I think and you sometimes see them on older bikes but they're not very common.

Second question: are they useful / any good in reality?

    Cheers.

  • Chain holder

  • To answer the second question: no

  • I've seen them called chain pips as well.

  • Cheers.

To answer the second question: no

Any particular reason? I always thought they looked pretty neat.

  • I've just never needed to hang my chain on the frame for any reason. I guess they'd be useful for a rear wheel tyre change but In two years of having a bike with one, which I ride almost every day, I don't think I've ever used it.

  • Cheers.... food for thought.

Edit: for what it's worth 'pips' comes up with better image results.

  • chain hanger also

  • There's one on my Serotta, I asked for one on the Time Machine but it was missed off.

The reason I had the race number holder on the Time Machine is not that I'm going to use it, but that to me a high quality steel frame (was, I've changed my mind a bit!) an old race frame - which would have had to have had a number.
