  • Nitto Riser Creaking

So i recently put on some nitto risers with a nitto jag stem. At first there was no noise however it is now very prominent. Im pretty sure its not the stem as when i use my drops there is no noise.. Just when i pull on the risers (i.e. going up hill) i get the creak.

    Any ideas why?

  • Schwalbe Marathon Supreme 28c folding. Picked up a pair for £25 each, now they all seem to either be gone or very expensive. Anywhere in the UK these can be found?

  • what's the best way to get from the city to parsons green at rush hour on thursday? will be on my brompton so looking for a direct but chilled route if poss.

  • Habeard - Your direct options are King's Road or Fulham Road. Fulham Road tends to be less hassle than King's Road.

  • this has caught my eye

worth a bid? if so,how much is it worth? not in the know when it comes to mtb's

would embankment be better or worse in terms of congestion?

  • Embankment evry teim.

Maybe not particularly chilled, but leaps and bounds faster than wading through the alternatives.

  • Embankment is sometimes nightmare-ish. But it's very hit and miss.
Having said that, river views trumps views of Chelsea tractors every time.

What a lot of cyclists don't realise is that you can legally ride on the footpath by the river along the most congested stretch, and go under the bridges, thus passing all the stationary traffic.

Yup, although 95% of the time it's just faster on the road (even taking into account stopping at traffic lights). I'm not a fan of doing 20mph+ on a shared use path.

Of course, it was way way faster to use the path yesterday evening when it was near gridlock all the way from Millbank to Parson's Green due to a bus/lorry crash.

  • Can someone explain in slightly more detail which bit of footpath cyclists can use legally? We talking about the Chelsea embankment?

  • Yes, you can use the pavement Westbound all the way between Chelsea Bridge and Lots Road.

Look for the little blue "pedestrians and cycles" sign here:-

as that means it's shared use (and pedestrians have priority).

    How much do you weigh?

And I went all this time thinking "impatient knobs" to all the pavement riders. Turns out I'm the knob.

  • At about 2:20 in this video
they start working on the inner and outer limits on the front derailleur of an ultegra set. Just a single turn with the screwdriver seem to move the derailleur at least a millimetre.

But on my brand spanking new 105 set I turn the outer and inner screws with no response at all, the derailleur just doesn't move sideways. ....

^^ Detach the cable. The derailleur will return to the position where it's limited by the lower limit screw. Now turn the limit screw. See the derailure move? If no, check the screws / threads for damage, i.e. threading. ....

    Thanks Howard.
OK, so I detached the cable on my front derailleur and started setting up the front gears again. Now the lower limit screw responds perfectly, just like in the video I linked to
    above.
Eventually I managed to get the front gears working nicely, but this was achieved mostly by lots of trial and error trough adjusting the cable tension directly. Basically by way of detaching and re-attaching it until I found something that worked for both chainrings.
But the turning the outer limit screw still doesn't produce any movement whatsoever in the derailleur. It's a brand new bit of kit and I cannot spot anything wrong with the naked eye. I haven't taken the outer limit screw all the way out of the the derailleur body to inspect threading etc - it doesn't seem possible actually.

  • If it's been turned in the direction that moves the cage outward and nothing seems to be happening, it may take you putting pressure on the shift lever (the large left one) to push it all the way to the actual limit. You do need tension in the cable. You might also do this by fixing the cable and then unscrewing the cable stop on the downtube a few clicks to increase the tension.
