  • I used a fairfx.com $ card* in chicago. there was only one place I couldn't use it which was out in the sticks on an old dial up modem sounding standalone atm which didn't like our debit cards either.

i think they work well and you can withdraw cash on them quite easily if you prefer to carry cash

*two actually. I had a second backup card on the same account with about $100 on it that i kept with my passport, as they can transfer the balance between cards over the phone in an emergency so was covered in case i had my main one stolen or I lost it somehow.

  • Fairfx seems slightly better but as usual, I've left it to the last minute so I can't wait 7-9 days for delivery :-( I'll have to pickup the Travelex card from Westfield in Stratford as it is and I hate that fucking place.

  • Question regarding jerseys. Been trying a few different "aero" jerseys as I want something more form fitting. The problem is they all seem to have full length zips which bunch up and ruffle at my belly when sitting on the bike. Am I doing something wrong or is this inevitable with full length zips? So far I've tried castelli 4.0, 5.0 and sportful aero with no success.

  • NH the post office do one as well you can pick up in most branches. you might need photo id.

  • Cheers dude, PO one is maximum £750 and it's not guaranteed in store collect.

I'm way too baller for that amount of cash. I'll just go Travelex. It can't be any worse than my HSBC account.

  • I'd like a fixed gear frame with a front disc brake. It should handle well, have 120mm track dropouts in the back and rather not be "long and low" but "normal".

So far my option is getting a Mielec frame made and pairing that with a cyclocross fork. That will set me back about £375.
    Is there any easier/cheaper way?

I use a caxton FX euro when I'm away, very simple to topup and then just use it like a regular card.

  • Pompetamine?

  • NH you just walk into a post office with your passport/drivers license and they top up and give it to you there and then (emma got one for chicago), the £750 limit is only for the first top-up in the post office as well.

  • Pompetamine?

Not 120 at the back. But pompino + pompetamine fork would work.

  • Or any track/fixed/"urban" frame with a disc fork in the right proportions?

No load fee over £500 and £5 below that, walk into the office in Oxford Circus to collect

I have an All City Big Block with this: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/evolution-a647-carbon-road-disc-forks-700c-1-1-8-inch-ahead-for-32-mm-tyres-prod25964/?geoc=us

The other option I found was a Surly Long Haul Trucker 26" disc fork, but it has a fair bit more rake.

  • Thanks so far. I'll look into this.

Pomp isn't quite what I'm looking for though, the geometry doesn't suit me..

Do you know any? because typical track forks seem to be 370-375mm A-C while typical Cyclocross disc forks are 390-395mm A-C.

I did the math on a PreCursa. Fork length of +2cm equals about 1.4° of tilt. Which makes the angles a joke. (71.6° steerer angle)
Trail is at 53mm though which is nice, and Stack&Reach would finally get into usable areas...

Thanks everyone, I took on board what everyone said, but went for a Travelex anyway... I can pick up from Stratford so it's on the way home. Worked out OK. I'll post if I have any major issues, for future reference of course.

  • I would have recommended the PO one, get 750, register it then load it up after 24 hours. There is even a cool little app so you can check the balance.

  • IT'S TOO LATE STEVO!

    Why must you torment me.

  • Soz, I was in werkz, earning moar $$$$ for my uber kewl port office card

  • Thanks so far. I'll look into this.

    Surly Cross Check SS?

  • All City Nature Boy Disc?

  • Anyone know where to get a 40mm deep (both sides) hardwood square corner?
Can't find them. Are they called something different?

  • Your local DIY joint will have 42mm in pine, for hardwood try a Richard Burbidge stockist :

    http://www.richardburbidge.com/find-a-stockist

  • To add to this; I just took the top cap off and loosened the stem and there was a significant amount of wobble, around a degree or two I'd say. So seems like the stem bore is slightly larger than 1 1/8 (or the steerer is small, but this seems less likely as the spacers are quite snug.

    Here's a pic:

Just went into Giant this afternoon, they agreed that it was a manufacturing default, as the same bike on the shop floor didn't have that issue. They didn't have any spare 90mm stems in, so gave me a 100mm for the time being and have ordered a new one. Also gave my wheels a quick truing whilst I waited. All in all, good service.

  • I can't find a frame builder who's name sounded like Ritchardsky? They are doing nice steel frames but can't find the name...
Google and bing didn't help in my search either.
    Does that ring a bell?
