For the drops obvs, some hydraulic MTB brake for the risers
-
• #61703
Also I'll have to buy a pair of Hylex otherwise I'd look awfully silly with just one brake lever on the drops... And since I don't run a rear brake...
Well I think a Spyre will also do the trick. I'm just fed up with one-sided disc brakes...

I was thinking compact drops + Hy/Rd. And maybe risers for winter commuting...
Srzly? Haven't you heard: "Bullhorns for Winters, risers for sprinters". -
• #61705
Nope. Did not hear. Please elaborate.

Apart from SPA cycles in the UK who else sells these?
Nobody else stocks Stronglight in depth like Spa.
XXCycles have black anodised Dural if you're after cheap
http://www.xxcycle.com/chainring-road-and-stronglight,en.php
No 52T, but they have Zicral (7075) 52T, total £38.31 inc. p&p for a Dural inner and a Zicral outer -

Hmm either I'll just pay extra £20-ish for CT2 with 52/36 or I'll go 51/35 Dural/Zircal for a cheap try before you buy approach ..
I am on 50-34 with 12-25 and I find myself in 50-12 on flats quite a lot of time which limits me below 30mph at my preferred cadence .. 1 teeth increment or 2 teeth? I might stick with 34t inner .. dunno yet.

30mph on 50/12 is only 92rpm, maybe learning to pedal would be a good idea :-)
Also, if you're spending a lot of time on the flat feeling annoyed at doing 'only' 30mph, a professional contract must be on the cards so you can get your sponsors to pay for nice chain rings.

Well its the flats after downhills (e.g going clockwise; sawyers hill in richmond where the dude i overtook with standard 53/39 easily overtakes me while I am out of gears) where you already have the speed .. I tend to pedal between 75 and 85rpm average on speedy bits I go little over 90rpm; dont really prefer over 90rpm tbh .. 1 teeth or 2 teeth is the question; where is this rpm/speed calculator?

I'm with tester on this one. If I can wind the Dentist's Chair up to 54mph in Lanzarote on a compact chainset, I can't really see that a 52 tooth chainring is necessary for Richmond.

• #61711
hmm ok i'll give it a try again .. thats some epic speed there!
I have done the same road fixed (48x17) and churned out just shy of 30mph at about 95 (i think) rpm ..

Plug everything in here, set the "show values" drop down to "speed" and adjust the cadence. The "compare" button will show a second table so you can see how different set-ups... er, compare. :)

48/17 is 135rpm at 30mph, assuming 700×23C tyres.

I have a bike with mid 90s record 9-speed groupset* with "Ergopower" brake/shift levers. I am finding the thumb levers annoying after riding a while. Do I have a choice to replace them with sram doubletap style or something or do I need to buy a whole new groupset or is there any other idea? I dislike the Shimano ones also but maybe I need to get over it?
Or should I just get rich and get a carbon bike with di2?
*a little mix and matchy some chorus etc.

Please and thank you...
Does anyone have a set of rollers they wouldn't mind lending me for a week - a fortnight?
I'm looking to buy some but I wanna try a set out and see if they're for me or not.
I can collect, pay a rental fee/deposit/buy you beer etc
Thanks in advance. You can have mine for the next 6 weeks if you can arrange getting them before I leave thurs midday. Can drop them off tomorrow daytime or eve in the car (you're reasonably local, right?)

34x12 is pretty much bang on the same ratio as 48x17 - you sure you were in the big ring?
;)

Save your watts, they're worth far more on the uphills than the downhills. Aerodynamics, innit.
Oh, and lern 2 spin.

Anyone know where I can get one of these spacers with a built-in cable stop for a canti brake? I dunno what the proper name is in order to search for it. Thanks.

• #61721
Get a fork crown mounted one if you can, much better.

You can get the spacer kind form Condor. Not sure about online but they have them in the shop.
SJS do them too
