Cheers.
I've been to Switzerland a few times with work. So depressing to travel from Norway and not find everything cheaper.
Currently looking at Saint-jean-de-Mauriene area, its between Col de la Madeleine, Col de la Croix de Fer, and Alp d'huez. So plenty to chew on.Saint-jean-de-Mauriene is nice - Bourg D'Oisans is probably the obvious choice though for that area - good bike shops, Alp d'huez on your doorstep along with Glandon, Croix de Fer, Galibier.
We stayed here (camped): http://www.fermenoemie.com/ last October - would recommend it

Gna start doing some commuting on the talbot and looking for some reasonable fast 28mm tyres that arent gatorskins but also arent going to puncture every 5 minutes, and also some no braze-ons necessary mudguards that'll fit the tyres on 23mm wide rims
Rubino Pro comes in 28mm. If you have more cash to splash Schwalbe Marathon Supreme?
Get some p-clips and fit regular guards?

I'm open to guards with those things that go on the axle, kinda cba with p-clips though

Like PDW then ... but wider (?)
-

I need to buy tyres first and check out how much clearance I have, Im only downsizing tyres because with the 33c theres no room
-

If the usage is going to be PURE road then you could do with Schwalbe One; they cost same as marathon supreme but are lighter and probably faster.
-
• #61333
And puncture more.
-
• #61334
Nah; I've used both over 1000+ miles no puncture whatsoever; first rear puncture I got on Ultremo DD (the older name/version of ONE) was a pinch after about 1500 miles

Hmm, yeah, its a crap-shoot, but if we want to do the whole CSB thing the missus got about 4000k out of her Supremes, then punctured once and replaced them with a fresh pair. Rather than bin them, I used them on the SSCX Talbot, and I'm about 1000km down the line on them without issue.
If I wanted a lighter, every day tire I'd go for a Rubino Pro though - £20.

How much wear would you expect on an Archetype rim after 1000 miles?
-
• #61338
Depends - 60kg rider, sunday best: naff all. 90kg rider, all weather bike: a fair amount, maybe 1/3 of their life?
-
• #61339
what's that equate to in mm-0.8 or something?
Bought some off the forum 'done max 1000 miles' and there's about 1mm wear, which seems a lot. I queried before purchase and was sent a blurry photo, which I said was pretty useless, but would trust that it was light wear.
Tempted to bump them back in the post.

Pop something flat against the surface and take a photo then post it here.
Miles Ridden isn't really a good indicator for rim life though, so I'm not sure what basis you'd have to send them back, unless they are completely shot.

I've ridden on archetypes on my daily for 18 months now. Probably around 6000 miles. Anodizing is gone obviously but no appreciable wear at all.
I don't stop for nothing though. NOTHING.
-
• #61343
Yeah, hard to quantify that's why I'm asking. i've another pair of Pro lites i've done well over 3000km on in the last year in all weather and they have virtually no wear, ditto my Ambrosio/Royce wheels, so that's why I was surprised.

That's 1000 miles of braking.
-
• #61345
I'll attempt to take a photo of my rim tonight uber

hairy muff-it must be by Quintana-esque frame and dare-devil lack of brake applications that keeps my rims fresh....

GP 4 Seasons are available in 28mm. Completely different tyre to Gatorskins.

Q
what information can you get from a photo uploaded to imgur? i.e. the location, camera, date etc.? -

No one?
NO ONE!
NOT EVEN ONE OF YOU!
If you go with bar end shifters make sure the handlebar has the inner diameter to accommodate them, many are too small.
