Question is how do I tell if they're double or triple?!? May seem like a
dumb question I know however it isn't immediately obvious to me when trying
to see how many clicks the shifter moves).I bought 5700 doubles for my GF's bike. There are more than 2 cable positions to allow for trim.

Anyone here know how to set up a LAN between 4 PCs and 1 iMac?
We are planning on getting a NAS (drobo) to handle backups but havent a clue as to what else we'd needDo you have a router with 6 ports or more, or at least enough ports for the ones you'll run ethernet cables to?

switches are easy, plug it in to the router, then plug everything else into the switch.
They generally don't need to configured.

For backing up large amounts of data from the PCs to the NAS, the extra speed of a wire connection could be handy.

ok so its a speed thingumimyjig - sweet :)

thanks - i think we'll set up like this:
drobo > router > ethernet connected 4 PCs + iMac (wirelessly connected)

Are there any cheap but good cranks for under 50 quid that do a ~42mm chainline? (I do know about the Alfine.)
I'm looking for something in 165mm and nicely stiff.
Are the Sturmey-Archer cranks any good? -
• #60738
I've used the basic 170mm Sturmey cranks quite happily for a couple of years. I've had them on steel and alu track frames and can't say I've ever had any trouble/noticed any flex. They seem identical to Sugino Messengers, despite retailing at a franction of the price - I'd wager they're even made in the same factory. Only possible downside is that they take 130bcd rings, but I've ran 3/32 and 1/8 rings on them and haven't had any trouble there either despite serious 'hooning'. They also take 107mm JIS taper BBs, so the world's your oyster in that respect.
Hope tester will be along in a minute to prove you won't be strong enough to bend any modern 'track' crank anyway, so stiffness shouldn't be a problem.
I think they're a perfectly good crankset for the money, and the logos come off if you look at them too hard too which is a bonus, so you don't even have to worry about them if you're swayed aesthetically.

These are £60 but reduced from £120.
I'm sure someone will be along in a second to tell me these are shit. My mate just got some.

Logic would dictate that Sturmey branded cranks come out of the SunRace factory, whereas I think Sugino's cheap models are outsourced to Tien Hsin*, home of TH, RPM and FSA brands.
*Always worth a google

I have them on my trackie. Been totally trouble free so far... They certainly aren't the constraint on my performance!

If that's NSFW, you must live in an even more repressed country than Taiwan

Were you looking at Tien Hsin Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd., rather than Tien Hsin Industries Co., Ltd.?

Shakes fist vaguely towards tester but also towards those who decided what is acceptable to view in an open plan British office between the hours of 9am and 5 pm

Am I right in saying the Shimano shifters aren't user serviceable?
Got a left hand ST-4501 (double) that doesn't seem right in my very limited experience: some clicks are more positive than others and the indicator is a bit random.
How many positions should it have? Am I right in saying that they aren't user serviceable?

Well, the spare parts list is roughly:
- R.H. Name Plate & Fixing Screws
- L.H. Name Plate & Fixing Screws
- Everything else

So if it's fucked, it's fucked.
Curious that the left gave out before the right...

The lower end stuff use shitty plastic ratchets, total crap.

Any southies/centralites have a headset cup removal tool I can borrow? My housemate just bought a recumbent and is having headset issues. Based Oval/Vauxhall, will collect and drop off next day if thats OK. Thanks.
