Is it possible to buy a box of lego bricks and not a kit of a car/spaceship/horse?
The online Lego shop lets you buy any individual bricks you want. There is also a thriving secondary market, both on eBay and in dedicated brick stores.

Can anyone give me a rough idea what a FSA Gossamer chainset equivalent would be in Shimano?
Want to try 165 road cranks because reasons, and the only other option I've found is Sora, for pretty similar prices.
Also, anywhere in London that sells Vellox cloth bar tape? My google-fu is weak this morning

If you do want bricks and mortar then I'd recommend -
not sure where you can get it in a bricks & mortar store specifically in London, but it is available in the UK. Maybe try Hamleys?

I think there are some physical brick stores in the US, but "Brick Store" is AFL speak for somebody running a secondary market in Lego bricks as a business, as opposed to just casual trading as a user. Most of them are virtual shops.

If you go back to the earliest café racers,it probably was the best material available. Now it's there for the hipster points :-)
That is what I was thinking, looking at the ducati's they just use cro mo
531 might have been the best material available, but it wasn't used for cafe racers. The earliest were cobbled together with proprietary frames.
Clipons, rearsets, engine swaps alloy tanks and single seats are what make the earliest cafe racers.Unless you were lucky enough to come by one of the race team Featherbeds :-)

Is there any scientific basis behind bars should be shoulder width, and that narrower bars restrict breathing by compressing your chest?

My point was that if you got hold of an ex-team 531 Featherbed frame, you could have had a 531 café racer. All sorts of motors have been stuffed into Featherbeds for café duty.
YES!
Why don't they stock that in Tesco? Or Asda or Sainsbury's? I want to play lego dammit
