  • Halo seem to be a brand in their own right but I've no idea if they're all actually made in the same factory.

I used to have a Halo track hub on the rear with that same system ex one on the front - they were marginally different designs but I'd say were of pretty equal quality.

  • .. two bolt seat posts? ..

    ..(3T Dorico, Doric, for example)...

    3T Palladio .. Enve ..

    Um... expensive tastes you two..

Is it OK with everyone if I get a Thomson Elite instead?

Halo products are made in various Taiwanese/Chinese factories, as are System-Ex

Pretty sure the System-Ex front hub is a Formula TH-50, and the Halo Spinmaster large flange road hub has a distinctly Formulaic look, albeit not a very close match for the front.

  • Why do buses say 'not in service' instead of 'out of service'.
I think they now have ideas above their station.

I'd be amazed if a Thomson Elite was cheaper than a Dorico Pro, but you are of course free to pick whatever you want.

  • On my STI shifters there's a bolt to attach to the clamp then a small circular washer and a larger square plate.

If I remove the square plate I can screw them onto the clamp, if it's still in there the bolt's not long enough.

Is it OK to take the square plate out?

  • Letting agency question:

We've paid £310 'admin fees' and £200 'credit referencing fees' and supplied them with all the details theyve asked for.

They have now come back to me and asked for a letter from my employer stating how long I've worked there and my salary. How is this my job? They've been given my employers details and i've paid them £200, what the fuck are they doing for £200?

That's bullshit. Although you know that already. But it sucks.

  • They (Acorn) did this to me- I told them that I would get them the letter if they refunded the credit check fee. They kept the fee.

Looking at Item 7 in the attached image, you're thinking of binning the square pressure plate which sandwiches between the nut flange washer and the lever body? Don't, it's there to spread the clamping load over a larger area of plastic. Your lever body could snap while you're honking up a hill. Also, if the only difference between attaches/doesn't attach is the thickness of that plate, you're not engaging enough thread between the tubular nut and the T-bolt anyway. If your lever body is standing off the bar due to some freakily large bend radius, you could consider a longer tubular nut from a brake caliper.

  • Exactly that plate. That's what I was worried about.

Although the shifters in question (Sora ST-3400) don't have the tubular nut a t-bolt setup. It's just an Allen bolt and threaded clamp assembly.

    I'll try a longer bolt I suppose.

    Thanks

  • That's odd, the ST-3400 EV shows a tube nut and T-bolt like the ST-5600 drawing. I wouldn't be that surprised if Shimano supplied screws and band clamps with captive nuts for OEM, though. There's probably a saving to the bike assembler of nearly $0.05 per bike that way. Makes your problem simpler, as finding a slightly longer screw will be much easier than finding exactly the right length tube nut.

  • Weirdly, after struggling with the little feckers for hours this morning, removing the square plates and then replacing them, it all seems to go together fine now I've had a couple of beers!

However the threads in one of the captive nuts is borked and a replacement's (hopefully) on its way form Scilly Suffolk of this parish.

  • Anyone use those top-up foreign currency cards? Wondering whether it's better (in terms of cost) than just taking out a fist-full of dollars before going overseas.

  • Just used the post office one for NYC. Was great. Used it everywhere. There's an android app to check the balance and top it up if needs be.

  • Ah fuck. Takes 6-8 days for delivery. I left this too late. Wads of cash it is.

  • I got mine in branch and registered it online the next day.

  • Orly? That changes everything. I'll stop by the post office today/Monday.

    Thanks!

    Q
alloy square taper campagnolo record cranks chainring bolts do not fit...
carbon square taper campagnolo record cranks.
    (image)

alloy cranks designed for 10mm chainring bolt outers, carbon cranks for 8mm?
    is this the ideal solution?
    is this the practical solution?

  • If I wanted to approach a small gallery about putting up an audio installation that uses talk radio as its stimulus, would they need a PRS licence? What if snippets of copyrighted music slipped in?
