As there seem to be no published maximum loads for the saddle loops on a Brooks, can I assume that it'll take the 10kg the bag is supposed to?
I've definitely (occasionally) carried that kind of weight on my brooks, not for super long journeys though...

I want to give a reference to a private landlord, so I've asked my CEO to write one - but he has asked me to write the letter. I'm kind of stumped what to write? Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing
isn't the reference supposed to come from a past landlord, not just someone who knows you? I assume the landlord would want to know you're reliable, how long you've been at your current job and how much you get paid and how often and that you've never come in with a hangover and tried to expense receipts for hookers and coke...

^^ Asked my mate who is into real estate in the UK. Don't expect answer (soon) though, so don't count too much on it.
He replied:
''In answer to your question, most lettings don't involve a personal reference and in England I would not ask for one, however, a work reference is mandatory and it has to come from your forumite's boss if it is a small company or the Human Resources Department if it is a bigger company''Guess you may find a simple setup for such letter using da googlewebz.

How strong would a 40/50mm wooden pole be? I have a Stolmen (x2) rack currently holding 2 bikes. I'd like to fit a pole horizontally, fitted with hooks, in order to hold 4 to 5 bikes vertically. I'm wondering if it would be strong enough.

You need to do calculations. Presumably what you're building is a beam supported at both ends with multiple point loads distributed along it. You can simplify it by designing for all the load to hang from the centre, which is going to be the highest stress, moving some of the load closer to the supports will be lower stress than that.
What's the span?
What's the load?
What kind of wood?

^^ Your question is giving me flashbacks to Year 9 Physics classes.
Also, my carefully considered answer is....maybe?
-

I was thinking a 150cm beam supported at the 50 and 100cm points. Load would be 40kg max. I don't know what wood will be available to me locally/delivered.

If in doubt, massively over-engineer.
My brother made this out of ~2" tube bent and welded to steel plate and fixed with about a dozen bolts (epoxyed for good measure). You could sit on it and it didn't flinch.

You think that's over engineered? You should see the dance pole anchor I made for a friend. Unless she invites 800lb gorillas to pole dancing lessons, that thing will stay put until the apocalypse.

"a friend"?

Well, she was at the time. Turned out to be a psychotic coke-fiend. The only pole-dance instructor I see on a more or less frequent basis these days manages to be certifiably nuts without the use of illicit pharmaceuticals, which is a much better state of affairs.

You only date strippers?
-
• #59543
You
onlydate strippers?I have done, it's not a course of action I'd recommend to anybody who works 9-5 because the hours don't really work, but in the end they are just people who happen to work naked, other than that I haven't found them to much different from the rest of the population. Of my two oldest female friends, one was a full time stripper for 20 years and one had the same administrative job at a film studio over almost exactly the same period of time. You'd be hard pressed to guess which was which if you met them now.

continental GP 4000s vs GP 4000s 2
Is there a significant difference, or was the 2 just to differentiate that there are more colour options now?

"The main thing that Wurmbäck stressed to us is that this is not a brand new tire, but rather an update to their hugely successful GP 4000S. I consider that to be a very good thing; it breaks my heart to see product designs that go from ‘good’ to ‘worse’ over time. Grandpa was right – if it ain’t broke, don’t ‘fix’ it.
What else is new? Two big things:
A new 650x23mm size (ISO 23-571)
A new 700x28mm size (ISO 28-622)"
