Will a small claim for £5 (that is legit) succeed regardless of low value?
My landlords painted the house and got paint on my jacket... which they're refusing to pay for dry cleaning. In principle I don't want them to get away with such dickery, and am happy to submit to MCOL/etc if needs be to show them not everyone is a pushover.
Relatedly, their argument is they gave warning that the guy was coming to paint. Surely they still have a responsibility to not be negligent when painting and also they can't expect us to hide all our personal belongings for days when we do need to live in the house?
-
• #56608
Any warning about which room would be painted when?
-
• #56609
^
Warning was very dubious. One of the 5 inhabitants received an email saying
"I am informed that the small bedroom, main bedroom, en-suite, kitchen and lounge will be repainted. Aswell as the front door."The jacket was hanging on the back of the front door (so in the "hall"? does front door mean inside or out?) and the painting ended up being done on various days up to a week after this email. Surely we aren't expected to remove all personal possessions from 5 rooms of our house?

I think better communication from the landlord would be expected.
They just sound too lazy to co-ordinate things better. -

They just sound too lazy to co-ordinate things better. That's generally their issue, so you have to call/email a million times for a simple repair. We don't even have a copy of our contract, not because of malice as far as I can tell, just plain lazy incompetence.
But - I still feel wronged and don't think they should get away with such bollocks

Do you have a copy of your deposit protection scheme certificate? Is it protected?

Do you have the equivalent of a Rental Tenancies Branch out there?
Someone to act as an intermediary? -

I am driving to Norfolk tomorrow and taking my bike. My car has a roof rack for bikes, but the wind is blowing at > 30 mph or so. Anyone ever used a roof rack in high winds?
-
• #56616
^Yep, no problem, just make doubly certain bike is secure. If you think about it, on a normal motorway journey you're creating a 70mph wind just by driving at the speed limit.
-
• #56617
Yes, I was thinking about that, but also contemplating the cross winds esp. if we take bikes for the whole family (ie four)

Yeah, they managed to get their act together to email us a copy the day of the legal limit.
Is it protected?
However I don't know if it is or not - when one tenant changed they sent us another certificate for the total deposit in a different serial number and names, even though the deposit itself hadn't changed at all (we just swapped someone in and out). So to me that calls into question whether it's formally protected or not, if they can so easily "protect" another three grand..

Someone to act as an intermediary?Nothing I've heard of. And it's not worth any 3rd parties for a fiver, I just want them to own up that it's their fault.

I've tried screw fix and several indy hardware stores. Is there a high street store (/offline) where I can buy M5 cage nuts?

What happened to the "what is everybody up to?" thread?
Was it nuked?
Where can I disclose my excitement/boast wildly about it being new bike day for me?
If you searched and couldn't find it it's probably because 'what' is one of the words we can no longer search for.

How many you need? MG?
