• What's the best recipe for pearl barley soup? I've got 800g of pearl barley thanks to L'Eroica, and feel I ought to try using it.

    Try this.

  • Thanks, looks good. I'll give it a try - just hope Google Translate's done a decent job with the Italian!

  • Reading that recipe made me want to eat that. May try it tomorrow.

And after browsing that website a bit more I got hungry and have a lot of new dishes on my to do list... d'oh!

  • shop in london that will glue tubs?

  • I will pass on the info.

To give you some context, I was on a cycling holiday with some friends in Italy and we had, at the hotel's guidance, stored our bike boxes in their garage. One morning we discovered they'd gone, having been taken by the binmen who'd assumed they were rubbish.

We sourced some cardboard boxes from a local bike shop, but weren't happy flying back with our bikes in them so tried to arrange for a courier to take them instead but none of the local courier companies would take them. In the end, I had to ask a friend, who ran a courier company in the UK, to ship them back. It cost £250, even at mate's rates.

  • shop in london that will glue tubs?

It's really not difficult, but if you do want a shop to do it then I think LMNH will do so.

  • Thanks, Andy. The guy's Italian, but northern and the bike's cental. I'll tell him your experience and let him see if he can figure anything out on his own.

  • This was ten years ago. Who knows, maybe Italy has joined the 20th century now.

  • The map you see is openstreetmap, other maps are available. With google earth as opposed to google maps, you can open numerous gpx files and colour them as required.

Thanks for this, rep on route. I'm off to have a play with this now, I really wanted it to work in google maps as that basic map is just too clunky, but will have a play with google earth instead.

  • ^^ I have family living in Italy and can assure you that the 20th century is but a dream.

  • Anyone know if Brixton Cycles do an 'anyone welcome' saturday morning ride for people interested in joining? I'm sure it used to be advertised on their website, but that's now gone a bit social network and can't actually see any useful information/times... I tried to set up a profile/membership thing last week, but apparently still pending. If I need to wait for this to be confirmed then fine, just quite keen to get out on Saturday.

  • Try Sunday morning, rather than Saturday - 8:30 Cafe St. Germain at Crystal Palace. Just turn up and say hi. Maybe email first to say you'll be going.

  • Ah cheers - no can do Sunday unfortunately, don't suppose anyone knows any friendly southerly club rides leaving Saturday morning that might welcome a couple of tag-alongs?

  • Dulwich Paragon?

  • Looking at their website they only allow non-members along to their ride first saturday of every month...

  • I know this is probably a really stupid question; is there any way I can make a Campag rear wheel work nicely with 10 speed 105?. Had a bit of a moment last night when I tried to fit the cassette.....

  • problem solver cassette

  • Ambrosio make Shimano spline/campag spaced cassettes. I've used one before with no problems.

  • Sadly, it's the other way around i need and they don't do that....

  • Conversion freehub?
Or you could look into Marchisio cassettes. They claim that "sprockets of any toothing can be assembled on any type of hub", and achieve this by using adaptors to ensure the sprockets fit the freehub grooves (Campag in your case), allied to appropriate spacers between the sprockets for whatever gearing system you use (Shimano). There's a fairly informative diagram here.

  • ^^Doh, sorry, misread!

Why wheel/hub is it? If you really like the wheel, the best option might be to replace the freehub body. I'm currently in the same situation, trying to find a Shimano freehub body for my Easton wheelset

  • It's a Shamal 650c, nice wheel but I'm wary of spending more cash without really knowing what I'm doing....
Those Marchisio cassettes should work, have to find one on sale....Cheers all.

I also tried to set up a membership. This was in June. Come July I got the following email:
Thank you for your interest in the club. We're currently in the process of changing our membership procedures. In the past we invited prospective members to join us on our Sunday club ride so we could meet each other, but due to the recent increase in interest we're setting up a monthly novice/induction ride. Once this is in place I'll contact you again with the details.
I never heard anything else, so I gave up on riding with Brixton due to poor communication and their attitude sounding like a pain in the ass.

  • Granted I should have just gone along on a Sunday, and I'm sure everyone there is nice and easy to ride with, but y'know when you try to do things 'by the book' and get fobbed off it doesn't give a great impression.

If you find a club doing rides on Saturday mornings in South London (other than Dulwich Paragon) I'd be keen to hear about it!

  • Also I just checked and my membership application is still pending. It's been 7 months.
