Have you looked at this? Someone at work had the same question. Don't know how it was resolved though: tempory car insurance for foreign drivers - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

Hire a car instead? Maybe less faff, less risk, more cost though? Depends how long they need it for.

Mrs P is heading up north in our car with two friends for the weekend, she's sure she can't/wont drive the whole way, so our American friend will drive some/most of the way.
I suggested htfu but that didn't seem a goer.. I'm going to the football and therefore get a pass
Thanks Constable Savage, I've sent the link on.. not sure why I'm the one trying to sort this out.

HTFU sounds cheaper and a lot less hassle plus who wants to drive at 55 on the wrong side of the road?
-
• #52706
yeah, I know.. She wont have it though and as such will be paying the premium.
He's a good driver and quicker than she is, I wonder if he'll get the same "Slow down & watch your speed" that I get
I am disappoint

That's me told then.
Although I think you're being a little oversensitive there Oliver.
Yes, you're right. Sorry about that. It was the straw that broke the camel's back, as in the last few days I'd seen a glut of just such instances, including some Steve Bell cartoons. They got me progressively annoyed.
The joke was being made about Stonhedge (or, rather, at Stonehedge's expense), not about German - the language is just the vehicle for the joke, and the fact that it is German is incidental.
True. The same thing usually happens with all sorts of other languages, too, as few can speak them properly. It is partly related to my background discomfort at how language-learning, a wonderful and hugely worthwhile activity, is neglected in this country.
Tschüss is often used to say hello - at least it was the times I have spent in SW Germany / W Austria
No, never. You're probably confusing it with the imported Italian 'ciao', which is widely used for 'hello'.

Oliver you're not down with the youth man, Tschüss is also used as a derogatery term for a woman's private parts.

Why would anyone use that to say 'hello' to TW2, then? ;)

Do you want me to spell it out, Oliver?

Inspired by the Android thread last week I bought an unlocked Ericsson T28.
Putting the SIM card in and turning it on it says "Insert Card", which a bit of Googling says might indicate that the phone is locked to a specific network.
Now I'm using a 3 Mobile SIM here- is there any reason why this wouldn't work whereas Orange/Voda/O2 would do?
-
• #52713
Wouldn't 3 be on 3g only which that ancient thing wouldn't support?
-
• #52714
Hmm: Our SIMs are only compatible with 3G or Ultrafast phones, so your SIM won’t work if you try and put it in an older phone.
From the Three website. That's annoying.

The clue is in the name.
-
• #52716
You may have a point, I had thought that 3 would use a 2G network if a 3G one was not available.
I've got a couple of Voda SIMs knocking around somewhere, I'll try one of those.

• #52717
Nah, that was there thing when they launched.
-
• #52718
I think they an agreement when they started out that they could use other operator's 2G networks when they had no base station in range, but that was definitely time limited.

Right, want to replace the housing on my bike that have centerpull, just the front really.
I have a normal Shimano housing but now that I used modern levers on it, it got a verythe tight bend from the bar to the cable hanger.
I was going to order Nokon cable housing as apparently they work great with a tight radius while still offering decent modulation, do anyone have other suggestions of cable housing other than Nokon?

I just bought some ilink cable set off fleabay, £27 and Uk stock.

My Berlin team always say Tschuss (or it might be shoes) to me when I leave their office or at the end of a call. What you are suggesting makes more sense than an informal form of goodbye or a compliment on my footwear.
-
• #52722
If you are getting Nokon for the front, you can probably get away with buying the extension set, which has 40cm of cable?
Coventry eagle suggested another make of cable as good but can't remember what, I'm sure he'll be along to post soon.
-
• #52723
I've managed to achieved a nice bend without creating the slightest cable friction but that result in the cable exiting the bartape earlier than at the end, the Nokon look to be a solution.
The iLink however look like it'll be uncomfortable under the very thin cloth tape, which is why I like the look of Nokon.

Just ask you wrote that, the postman came and dropped off my LEL brevet card that have been validated.
I've got car insurance and need to add someone with an international driving licence for a short term
Current company wont back this, so essentially I'm forced to swap (back story is boring)
So anyway, cheap car insurance that covers international drivers... Anyone have any experience?
Thanks
