  • True although the trainline is pretty crap, trains every hour or whatever, plus all the bike parking is outside. Bastards.

  • Live on the Mandela estate, close to town and 24hr drug dealers.

  • There is a lot of town houses near the Royal Berks but I've no idea about cost/niceness, easy ride to the station though.

  • Lots of good information (from both of you) - needs more consideration I think, though it looks like we're a bit priced out of some of the better bits you've mentioned.

One last question; what time in the morning does rush hour start there? She starts work in Marlborough at 8.30 so maybe she'll get to the motorway before the masses arrive?

  • Reading, at least it ain't Slough.

  • Whereabouts in London do you work?

  • I used to leave Reading at about 7 and it was ok, anything after half seven and you are static. Getting out should be fine, depends what time she wants to get back in.

  • Whereabouts in London do you work?

Holborn/Covent Garden area - currently get the train into Paddington & ride the rest of the way.

  • I'll see if my mum wants to move back to Manchester again, last time she did she rented her house out, 8.3 miles to the station, ain't as far as I thought.

There's a line into Waterloo from Reading, so maybe somewhere like Wokingham or Bracknell could be an option? Bit of a long commute for your other half though.

Doesn't that line take about three days and stop in every train station in the south of England?

  • It can feel that way.

  • I remember taking it a couple of times thinking it would be easier to get to work from, it wasn't.

  • ain't as far as I thought.

    see me after class, otter.

  • Yeah I wanted to avoid that line, though maybe one stop away from Reading & going to Reading first then changing could be the better option.

    We would be buying btw.

Maybe I'll have a bit of a break from GTA at the weekend & drive over to look at the [strike]prostitutes[/strike] area.

  • Newbury or Hungerford could be options. Longer journey for you but there are fast trains.

  • GTA style driving will probably be useful if you go anywhere near the Oracle centre on a Saturday.

  • see me after class, otter.

Have I been a naughty boy, yeah?

  • Newbury or Hungerford could be options. Longer journey for you but there are fast trains.

They were considered; Newbury is just as bad a shithole as Reading but has 2x as many inbreds.

Hungerford is nice but that trainline between Reading, Newbury & Hungerford is incredibly troubled; regularly over an hour late/broken down/diverted all together which is one of the driving forces behind moving (it's the line I get now).

  • My mum and dad live just outside Newbury.

  • Are they brother & sister?

  • Not that they've ever divulged.

  • Does anyone here live in Reading or know the area quite well?

My girlfriend works in Marlborough & I work in London, I've tried commuting from Marlborough but it just takes too long so we're looking to move house and share the commuting distance - in my mind this leaves us with Reading as the best option.

Which are the nice and which are the shit areas?

I need to be able to get to the station & my girlfriend will be driving West to Marlborough for work if that helps with location...

Winchester? Hours drive Winchester - Marlborough, and an hour on the train to Waterloo.

  • It's a bit quiet, but it's 1,400% less shit than Reading.

  • I was born in Winchester and lived in Reading. I agree with the man above.
