Noiser, I change my gears quite frequently but generally found that if I was happy about town I'd be happy on a longer ride, for me this sits at about 68GI, you're probably asking so you can decide on a gear for the dun run?
I'll be on 71.5 just because it's the most reasonable thing I can get with my lack of cog choice. -

Isles of Scilly - warmest climate in the UK, turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and tropical plants.
F*** it, I'll come with you...
And you get a ride in a helicopter.

"I swear I've seen you bang on about riding a big gear fixed? At that cadence you must be riding short distance or mega fit!"
I'm a masher by nature, not riding at the the moment due to injury, But yes, I used to ride a relatively high gear ratio. In terms of training I mainly go for short (high intensity) rides. And again yes, before getting injured I was well fit if I may say so myself, for an old man anyway.
Besides 100rpm is hardly a high cadence, though anything above 130rpm is spinning like mad in my little world, hence I seriously struggle on descents. I can "spin" though, only I'm not very comfortable doing it and evidently can't control my bike in the process... :(

That's not the only way to get there, is it? -

Haven't you been?
There is also a boat but the helicopter is a go on a helicopter so wins.
Its a passenger helicopter not just you and the pilot. No drinks trolley or in flight movie tho.

For me gearing changes depending on hillyness not distance.
For London or any other flat routes (ie to Cambridge, and I'd guess for the dun) I go for 70gi or there abouts. 60-65 for Brighton. 55-60 for the alps.

Have an 18T EAI if you want to borrow?
I've just never though much about cadence, just inches.
However for long flat rides I imagine its better to focus cadence(?).Usually do a 2+ hours at 95. Thought that for 6+ hours 85 would be better, that there would be less fatigue. However read that higher cadence is better for blood flow, reducing fatigue.
Maybe gear up and drop cadence for the first few hours of the Dynamo and see how it feels? I suppose it's all personally preference.

I need a grease gun to connect to a Chris King BB grease tool.
Any suggestions as to one that is available from a shop in London? Also what grease should I use? Again needs to be readily available in London.
Go find a boat chandler and get waterproof grease, the kind that is used in boat axle wheel bearings. Best stuff imo.
I have one of these http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cgg120-4-piece-grease-gun as it has multiple tubes and attachments for many differing fitments.

Not any more :(
The helicopter service from Penzance stopped about 6 months ago.
Only the ferry (slow ~4hrs IIRC) or the plane from Lands End (15-20mins) now :(
I have many fond memories of that helicopter, as I was born on Scilly and lived there until I was 10 - an awesome place to grow up as a kid

Just been rear ended
Rear wheel taco shape now
At the girlfriends in New Malden, and going away for a few days
Best place nearby to get the wheel rebuilt? I just want to drop it off for repair. Are sigma any good?
Needs a black open pro rim, hopefully spokes and hub are intact.

Your pretty close to Sigma but I'm fairly sure they'll be booked up.

Surbiton Cycles is a fairly new shop so might have time to build one.

Persons in Sutton maybe.

Will call them in a minute. Any idea if their mechanic is any good?
Usually I'd do this myself but will be away for a few days and need it fixed for when I return.

O rly. Visited the Scillys (Tresco, specifically) as a kid - we took the ferry out but the helicopter back, as the ferry was a bit rough and my mum couldn't face the return trip. :)

Neil's Wheels are the winner
Only place that has a rim and can do a build within the next 2 days. Sigma was a 3 week wait, Surbiton did not answer their phone.

We're looking for a hand-held a sat-nav for a present for my old man which he can use for hiking and cycling. Considering a Garmin oregon 600 - any real challengers? cheers

Who do I call/email about a possible gas leak?
I smell gas eveytime I walk past a certain set of gas maintenance/access things on the pavement. I have no idea who the provider is, or the house/flat it is in relation to.

That makes me so sad. That was the only journey I had in a helicopter, that I had that wasn't a sightseeing journey.

I have an old gps70, that I love. Its waterproof and quite rugged. The bonus point for me is AA battery powered hence no issue of running out of power.
The modern ones, gpsmap62, even have a 5mp camera!!!

^ blame Tesco: http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/Tesco-asked-legal-killed-Scilly-helicopter-link/story-16655150-detail/story.html#axzz2ZPSznTcW
That is sad. Even the steamboat company (the ferry operators) got involved. Was looking forward to going again and taking the helicopter
