Its for application in to an HND course later this year, I haven't really done any maths in a few years and its got me stumped :( need help!

  • Can anyone recommend a good book to teach myself SQL?

  • This is pretty good, but assumes you know understand the concept of databases and just need help with the querying grammar.
    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/index.html

  • I think i might need something very basic to start with i'm afraid, i've used a lot of relational databases in the past and undertand the concepts of them, but usually only had access to glossy front end products that do all the work for you.

    ^that had two puns in.

  • A while ago somebody posted a music video which featured a hipster on a sweet vintage fixie riding up a hill on a sunny day.

I've forgotten now, what was it?

Found it. In case anyone is interested:

  • not a fixie - not interested.

  • There's an O'Reilly book with a frog on the cover:
    http://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Learning_SQL.html?id=1PgCCVryjOQC
Learning SQL eBook: Alan Beaulieu: Amazon.co.uk: Kindle Store

+1 for this book, I used it when I was learning SQL.

  • I need to buy a cheap ps3 controller. I guess second hand would be best, but are there any shops in London I can pick one up from?

  • I've got a couple that I don't use (don't play anymore)

I'm not sure if they still work and CBA to get the PS3 down from the attic to check, you're welcome to test em and if they work they're a fiver each.

I was about to recommend Game Focus but apparently it closed down last year. Lame. In which case, any CeX.

  • I used an O'Reilly book for c# I didn't learn anything but it was a fun read.

  • I learnt C# by already knowing Java (not javascript) and picked it up as I went.

It depends whether you're learning a language, a standard library and normal paradigm, or learning to program in the first place.

  • Oh I was told to learn it because I could knock up batch files and making applications for a company for no extra money would be worth my while?

  • Batch files using C#??

  • powershell i presume?

  • No, I was born unto DOS and as such can create batch files to do most things. So non technical technical manager said make Crafty learn a programming language because he can do batch files we can then abuse him for no extra cost.

I got out of it and made them hire a dev company to which they ignored and hired a one man band (who dissapeared soon as he was paid) and as such I'm left supporting something with no documentation.

But it doesn't matter as they saved xxx pounds initially and comfortably ignore the fact they've spent twice the amount getting support for the existing system as that one doesn't do what it should.

Broadcast IT up in your face bitches.
