Ooh harsh. Used to get them in my teens...not anymore though (touch wood). If i drive the car and there's a drop of rain on the windscreen in my vison i have to clean it off 'cos it reminds of this and make me want to vom....

So, npower sent me one of those "please read you meter and send us the readings" letters. So I did that. Then they contacted me and said "your meter readings appear to be out of sync".

"Uh oh", I though.

I took readings again and sent them in. They re-calculated my bill and it now looks like my next bill is going to be £1500. For one month (which is just crazy given that similar properties seem to be paying maybe £60/mo). And I've only been in the property about a year.

I'm paying by direct debit so I'm worried they'll just take the money and ignore my protestations. Would it be a good idea to cancel the DD and wait for them to suddenly take an interest in my plight, or will I get a bad credit rating for pulling a stunt like that?

Has your meter been replaced in the last few years? A friend got huge bill cancelled once they accepted that the reason the new reading was lower than the last reading was that they'd installed a new meter and he hadn't been constantly consuming the 30kW or so needed to roll his old meter over through zero since the last reading. Ask them what they think the serial number is.

What is the agrument against animal testing?

There are protestors outside the offices oposite. It's an investment Co that owns shares in Astrazeneca. The argument I guess, is that you shouldn't make profit and support a multinational drugs co. because they test on animals. Although imo owning shares in shit that makes you fat is prolly worse, but no one says shit about that

We've been paying £180/mo for the last year, which for a house of 5, heated by gas still seems to be way too much.

Another possibility is that you are reading the tenths and they are expecting, and writing down, whole units, e.g. your meter reads 12478.9 and they think it says 124789.

Im 100% with you on this. Bunch of moaners are mostly hypocrites too.

The ethical codes for this sort of thing are pretty fucking strict in countries like this one. And the kinds of countries they are really cruel or excessive, humans are getting treated shockingly bad too.

The lack of species-centric empathy and ability to reason in a balanced scientific perspective a lot of people have shocks me.
