By that logic, you might as well just go Mavic iO
And a disc.

Thanks, got a pic of the goldtecs from the side?

• #42404
Looks lovely but a bit high flange for me.
-
• #42405
Why do you want low flange?
-
• #42406
Just what I prefer really.
-
• #42407
Only that they're not suitable for the track. Well, you could use them but not ideal.
-
• #42408
Hopefully not the only flange i'll be getting a close up of today

Is there a way to upload photos directly from my iPhone 4 to this forum, and if not which proxy site (?) should I use?
-
• #42413
Yes, if you've got the most recent software updates you should be able to upload pictures by clickin on the attachment paper lip thing (you'll need to "go advanced").
Alternatively I use Flickr (app) and then go to the Flickr webpage to get the share link thing.
There's also shutterfly and Instagram... (Too much listening to the BBC "other platforms are also available")

photobucket? The android app conveniently offers [IMG] tagged URLs for me to copy and paste into my browser.
-
• #42415
Wait, can you even copy/paste on iOS nowadays?
-
• #42416
Yup you can also copy and paste now...

^^^ Track hubs, are by definition, large flange. This is in order to make the wheel stiffer for track racing.
Bollocks. Large flanges make so little difference to wheel stiffness that you'd be much better off changing the spoke diameter by 10% rather than changing the flange size. Large flange hubs for track are purely a fashion choice.
I never said low flange hubs for fixed wheel weren't made, only that they're not suitable for the track. Well, you could use them but not ideal.
The same bollocks, rephrased so that we can all be absolutely certain that you don't have a single clue.

^ and a bad fashion choice too.
(I do own a pair of Airlites but the Mavics float my boat)

Stupid Question Alert (there'll be plenty of these from me, sorry):
When I see hubs listed as 'track hubs', like this one for example...
... is that purely for use on the track?
I mean, is there an actual difference in the build of 'em and good reasons it shouldn't be used on the road? Or is it just down to spacing/size etc?
-
• #42422
If they are track hubs you can only turn left.
-
• #42423
Well obviously.
Unless you were going backwards.
EDIT - Or in the wrong direction at least.

Some track hubs have poor weather sealing (albeit no worse than old fashioned road hubs), since seals cause drag and it rarely rains inside indoor velodromes. Some track hubs are a bit weak for the rigours of our beautifully maintained roads. If you avoid Campag Sheriff Stars, you should be fine to use anything else labelled as a track hub for road fixed, although you'll want to strip, clean and re-grease the bearings on Campag Record, Shimano DA and other loose ball hubs fairly frequently if you use them in all weathers.

In other word, just go for the system ex/ambrosio/on-one/generic rear hubs and front road hubs.
By that logic, you might as well just go Mavic iO
