  • To the extent that there is common agreement on the bounds of the fictional Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda lies at its Northern vertex

  • The clamp face on my USE sumo is stuck to the seatpost. Any ideas how to loosen this are appreciated.

  • wd40?

  • Plusgas (wd40 is a water dispersant not a penetrating fluid)

  • Medical Emergency

There's something stuck to my new frame and I don't know if it's getable off-able or not. I've been looking at old 'remove decals' kinda threads ... but any recent knowledge or expertise would be most appreciated.

Here it is: (apologies for iphone photos)

    And...

It appears to be a shop sticker, there is a definite but subtle edge.

Do I risk the hair dryer treatment?

    Take it to a LBS?

    Leave it?

  • Are you fucking kidding me? take it to a LBS??

  • UTF Search for "decals"

  • Better safe than sorry Ed, not everyone has the Park Tool FN-1 Fingernail tool at home.

  • I've got one you can borrow..

  • Sorry, I'm currently unable to interpet sarcasm or jokes, such is the extent of my worry, so all serious advice appreciated :)

I'm a total virgin in this kind of realm.

  • nail varnish remover

  • Cover it with other stickers.

  • Serious answer - if it's just a shop sticker applied over the clearcoat, just pick/peel it off (with your fingernail or something plastic, not a metal blade) and clean up any sticky residue with a mild degreaser (e.g. warm water & washing up liquid). Same as rim decals.

  • You are all enjoying prolonging my pain. I'll remember this. And I'll have my vengenace.

This is my Merckx Corsa project , nothing can be done that risks the original paint. I mean, I'd just have to top myself if I knackered it.

Cheers. I think this is the case. My ability to judge has been seriously impaired though.

It's just that the sticker looks like it's been there a good decade. It's clinging on big time. Scared to pick it.

  • Have to agree with hippy on this one. The old angle grinder will take care of that in no time.

  • Fire, lots of fire.

I don't like the smell though.

No, cheers for the answer. I'll sleep on all the advice and get on to this tomorrow.

    Thanks

  • Be careful peeling that sticker off, you might peel a bit of steel with it.

  • Is it a load bearing sticker?

Thus raising the possibility that the paint underneath it will not have faded to the extent that the uncovered paint has? Which could mean that if you remove the sticker, you'll have a sticker-sized bit of paint that doesn't match the rest of the frame. None of which helps you much...

  • In which case the answer is to wrap the entire frame in old inner tubes

  • Before you use nail varnish remover try WD40. Spray it all over the sticker and leave it to soak overnight. Repeat the process a few hours later and see if an edge has come loose. It should loosen up the glue and definitely won't cause any damage to the paintwork which nail varnish remover might.

  • Is it too soon for hayfever or am I still ill?

Nope, I get it around early feb every year.
Last year homeopathy completely sorted it! Started this years course too and it's been good so far.
