Will a 1/8th chain running on a 3/32 cog wear quicker than if it were running on a 1/8th one? I'm thinking yes, as a smaller contact patch on the rollers. But I'm not sure...

I don't think it'll make a difference as the roller/chain contact isn't what causes chain wear (well, stretch). It's the rollers wearing through the side plate that causes it, and that won't be affected by running a thinner cog.

Does anyone have a lady's/town bike I could borrow (for mrs_com) for a few days in March. And more importantly, doesn't mind dropping it off at Paddington Station on a Thursday or Friday morning and picking it up again on the Saturday or Sunday - for a fee?
/small cycling holiday
/getting train from Paddington
/mrs_com won't cycle in LondonRight, I really need some help with this. I've pretty much got everything sorted apart from how to get a bike (hired or borrowed) to Paddington Station early on a Thursday morning and away from there on a Sunday afternoon/evening?
I don't know of any hire places close enough unless someone knows something I don't?
An option would be to lock one up nearby on the Wednesday night if I ride it there myself and for a few hours on the Sunday while I cycle home on my bike, tube back then cycle the other bike. Would it be safe there? I'm sure hire companies would frown upon this.
Would any cycle hire places deliver and collect?
Do any forumers live within walking distance of Paddington?
Sensible suggestions gratefully received.

If you end up ghost riding it, lift the front wheel off the ground and it's so much easier.
Lynx once did something clever by taking off the front wheel and fixing the forks of the second bike to the arms of the rear rack that was on his, so it was like a trailer bike, and perfectly stable.

Also, a bike will fit sideways in a black cab, or on its side in the back of an Addison Lee Galaxy

Have you any experience with bikes in taxis? Not a fan of the ghost riding should anything happen and scupper the weekend, thanks though.

Where are you going to from Paddington? I live in Reading, and have a small MTB you can pick up at the station

Why not lock it up somewhere, and take the wheels + saddle with you?

Hereford - but thanks for the offer

Worried that might make it look abandoned so it would get further stripped

Hereford
-might be worth looking at: http://www.haloleisure.co.uk/images/stories/Bike_Hire_DL_leaflet_10_05_12.pdf
The website doesn't mention bike hire but the leaflet does - it might be worth a phone call?
(walking across town would take about 15 minutes) -

I've carried taxis on my bike a few times, they never seem to mind. That might need fixing actually.

could i potentially swap out the spindle from a 75 for a suntour one?
Any thoughts anyone?
Suntour Superbe Pro track spindle being used with Sugino 75 bearings and cups.
will i have issues?
it does seem like the suntour have a bit of a seal on cups but not sure in real life.
