I've hosed down the connections. It doesn't seem to turn on now and my computer rebooted.

Any idea on definitive measurement of the drop?
See above.

Which version of Chrome? Which version of Flash do you have installed?
23.0.1271.97 m is my Chrome version.
Adobe Flash Player (2 files) - Version: 11.5.31.5
Shockwave Flash 11.5 r31I had older versions falling over all the time but this latest combo seems pretty solid.
Exact same versions of both. Things have also been solid for me so I've had no reason to change/update anything as until yesterday I could listen to all the music I could take. Now I can't get to the end of the latest Speedy J mix, but I suspect the changes to soundcloud have brought out the worst in the already installed Chrome version of Flash. I can't account for how or why it's happened, but following on from what moth says above I now have 2 installs of Flash after I downloaded another so will try the common fix of deleting the surplus.

Do you have the new Soundcloud or the original one? What other plugins are installed?

i have issues with flash on Cromium for linux, is this the same issue?
Where is dammit when you need him..

^^New soundcloud. Had not a tremor of bother beforehand. When I switched to IE the original soundcloud wouldn't function so seems to me the newer has entirely replaced it.
Other plugins are McAffee Site Advisor, Wajam (?), Chrome Remote Desktop Viewer, Injovo (?), QuickTime (7 files worth), Native Client, Chrome PDF, Skype, Adobe Reader, Google Update, iTunes Application Detector.

Apart from the crashing problem which is obviously common I now have a very buggy laptop, I think due to removing/re-installing browsers/ignorance. The word 'Application' in the above post appears as a bogus hyperlink to me - from hovering over it it's an advert to win the new iPhone 5. That's about the fifth post on various threads which have had similar - links to online casinos and whatnot. The internet is rapidly getting on my wick.

See above.
Got it. Well, I did maths at school, and that was a long time ago. Orthogonal and all that are a distant memory.... but I follow it roughly. Not the diagonal out to the braking surfaces themselves, but to the centre point between them (in fact the centre point of the brake shoe bolts. The straight drop as it were.
Mine works out at about 54mm, so the long drops should all work. Gonna try find some Shimano... just to match, don't want to but a whole new pair.
Thanks again.

You have too many weird plugins, kill them all.

Yes, but I couldn't be arsed to draw one, especially as I couldn't find a nice clear side elevation of a brake caliper.

i have issues with flash on Cromium for linux, is this the same issue?
On Chromium I only ever had issues with Java. Solved this byusing RNDR and then ultimately to installing Chrome as the browser. This solved my java issues, but sometimes now, and only sometimes it plays flash videos at over double speed.
At first I thought it was YouTube, but Vimeo and PB have the same problem. I am unaware of a way to fix this, and I am also unaware of anyone with the same issues... It's not even particular videos, sometimes I'll be 3mins in before it decides to troll me...
Anyway, /csb. -

Kill wajam, adobe reader, Skype, injovo and possibly QuickTime plugins. I don't think you need any of them, and wajam and injovo are probably Trojans.
Then download and run Spybot Search and Destroy.
Soundcloud, incidentally, doesn't need Flash. The site runs on my iPad just fine without it. Whether this is a setting you can set on a proper computer I don't know.

Shimtastic.
But to the OP, how do you know you need shims and/or inners or whatever?
Whilst I do need to go and see the Bike Whisperer at some point, this is more of a temporary measure, and I think I only really need someone to point me in the right direction rather than a full fitting.
One of my feet is slightly smaller so needs a bit of padding out, and I get a slight hotspot on the left side of my right foot which I think needs addressing. I've got pronation correction in my running shoes, just seems sensible to have something similar in my cycling shoes, right?

You might just as well go and get it done right first time, trial and error will probably not solve the problem first time, and you could end up dicking about for ages without improvement, or even making it worse

Torrent the whole series over a few evenings rather than streaming it.
