    firstly where can i get a new end cap?

    Secondly i noticed that that adjustor screw thing seems to be sticking out a fair old bit and the spring next to it is loose, should i be worried?

    End caps discussed at http://www.lfgss.com/thread86161.html - I think ordering from the US supplier linked there is easiest, unless anyone in that thread has spares they want to sell.

    Try screwing the screw back in? Does it do tension adjustment or just keep the spring in place?

    I've recently bought a steel track frame, advertised as a 54 but it has 53 stamped on the BB shell. So I assume its 54c-t and 53c-c. I'm worried that this is going to be too small.

    is there any way I can measure to see if its going to be too small before building?
    Also here is my 54 road bike with sloping tt showing a lot of seatpost. how will this transfer to classic geometry?

  • Top tube length is what matters. Everything else can be fixed by choosing the right seat post and stem angle, but if the top tube is the wrong length you end up with a funny stem length which messes up the steering.

  • Does anyone know between Tester and Hippy who's better in being tendentially right a lot?

    that's where I found one.

    If you feel any difference in clipping, unclipping, then yes, otherwise don't worry about it, they're pretty bombproof..

  • Is a large frame pump better than a smaller hand pump like my topeak?

    My topeak works fantastically although if large pumps generally work better, I can mount one to my frame pump braze ons, which would help tidy up all the shit I attach to my bike. And a nice frame pump would look lovely mounted to my seat stay.

    These look so much nicer, but do they function well?

    And if a frame pump is worth getting, does anyone know where to source a nice chrome one?

  • Ask a bike shop/bike builder to check out the integrity of the frame?

    They may also be able to write an assessment of the damage for you if you want to pursue compensation.

    Longer pumps should be better... But old frame pumps were awful. To clip into the braze-ons they had springs that resisted the last part of the pump stroke - i.e. the bit of the stroke where you're fighting the most air pressure and having to push against a spring as well is least welcome. Worst still even if you do fully compress the spring, the plunger usually still doesn't go near the end - air that you have to compress each stroke but that doesn't get pushed into the tyre, just uselessly re-expands on the out stroke.

    The little screw-in connector pipes became a commodity and suffered from being made too cheaply. They'd constantly be working loose and leaking as you pumped, and the rubber tube had a short life before it perished.

    If you run your tyres above 60 psi then avoid or old style frame pumps.

    SJS sell some modern frame pumps that address at least some of the flaws, but they don't use braze-ons - they jam into the main triangle and rely on your top tube and down tube being really close at the head tube. (Although the picture in your second post implies they can fit braze-ons, or at least can be adapted to.)
