A mate of mine is looking at getting a bike for his 18th birthday. He doesn't want a road bike, nor a MTB. Also he has a budget of ~£250.
He has been sending me links to cheap hybrids at the wrong size, and is not really 'in the know' when it comes to les velos.
So I am effectively looking for him. Is there anything like the Charge Grater, but at a lower price point? Because that'd be perfect for him.
Claud Butler Urban possibly.

Why do over 50's collects hats on the parcel shelf of the car?
I don't like the parcel shelf :(

Is there anything I need to know about cutting down carbon seat posts? I've just bought one that's about 10cm too long... Hacksawing it will be fine right?

Nothing really other than try not to breath in the dust- not very good for your lungs they say.
I'd get this, but then I'm a bit OCD: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/park-tool-threadless-ahead-fork-steerer-saw-guide-fits-all-sizes-1-1-4-inch-prod15080/

vaccum cleaner aimed at the steerer as you cut while wearing a mask.
-
• #37158
I quite like my one of those.^^

Awesome cheers for the answers.
I'm the opposite of OCD... Slightly worried that if I cut the post it will disintegrate under me and I'll get a sharp peice of carbon to the arse whilst going down hill...

We've got one of these at work, it's pretty heavy but fits the bill in most other respects. Basket, mudguards, big wheels and sturdiness normally rule out lightness.
Charge Hob Threes look decent though, check them out.
The Pinnacle Californium would be a better bet, as it's noticably lighter and cheaper at 12.8kg, come with £50 free accessories which is a good deal;

both good shouts cheers

In the movie Skyfall, why did James Bond ditches the company car (he said because it has a tracker in it and they could be followed) to get in his funky old personal car when as part of his plan he then had to get Ben Wishaw to create a false trail so that the baddie could follow him to his chosen location for a showdown.
He said they need to lure bardem, without arousing his suspicions. Q lays the trap, while bond performs the routine evasion tactics for show.

How do I remove the pins from these pedals? considering that they are going to be fixed in with locking compound.I want to use these pedals with restraps & hiking boots & I need to remove the pins for easy foot access.
-
• #37163
no?
-
• #37164
yes and no, yes because obviously I need an allen key, but how do I avoid stripping the pin when its set with locking compound?
-
• #37165
They will be easier to get out than you think. I've removed many a pin from a set of bmx pedals.
If you strip the head, which I'm sure you won't, you can drill it out, if you strip the pin thread, does it matter?

• #37166
Thanks thats what I needed to know - that someone has done it before SMILE
-
• #37167
Are you sure that they are locked in?
I my experiance the pins are simply screwed in, and can be screwed out some for grip, or in more, according to taste.
-
• #37168
Also the natural flex of such a fine allen key should prevent ham fisting it.
-
• #37169
Nice use of ham fisting. Repped.

If it is loctited in then put an Alan key in the bolt then use a torch to heat the Alan key, that'll break the bond.
Use gloves to turn the Alan key though or prepare for acute pain and shame.

• #37171
Are the pins really that tall? If there's any thread left, try screwing them further in instead of out (assuming they're the grub screw type)
-
• #37172
My bike has rack mounts on the seatstays, but where they are the strut that would bolt to it would wouldn't clear the cable as it enters the caliper.
does that make sense?
eg - see here on the ribble - the mounts are in line with the brake cable. do i need a special mount that will go around this?
-
• #37173
depend on the rack really, some are bend in order to clear it.
Like this;

• #37174
Ah. Mine has these:
Will I have to bodge something?
I don't want to buy a new rack! -
• #37175
Try and fit them, I'm sure it'll be fine, plus they're easy to bend in shape to make it fit.
