Rated People - I used it for the first time a week or two ago. I get how it works, but how did they build a database of tradesmen who were willing to pay for a service which would have had no page imprints to begin with? Was it free for both parties at the start?

I see. Thanks. vomits
How big are they? I can't tell from your pic because I don't understand where the bricks on the wall are. Wiki says they should only be about 6mm tops. Or does that just not count the legs?

I don't think it counts the legs. The height of those bricks is 3" (based on my guess that they are British imperial-size commons). I blew the picture up to 1:1 based on that and the body measured about 8mm. Maybe these are fat fucks.

We used this to get quotes. Can't answer your question but I do know they pay to be on it but if they don't get the job they get the money back.
We got sought 3 quotes. 1 didn't turn up. One did turn up and then didn't bother sending a quote. The last one turned up and made a competitive quote but in the end we went with a recommendation outside of the site simply as we'd seen his work and really liked him.

Ta.
Had 3 responses, I needed it done in a hurry so just went with the best rated guy. Posted at 11 at night, he had been and done it by 9:30 the next morning.
In this case though, it's specifically the starting aspect of it I'm particularly interested in. It seems a bit of a catch 22.
RatedPeople need database of users who are willing to search and pay for tradespeople, but not willing to commit to a new site, or haven't even visited it/don't know of it. Tradespeople would be less inclined to pay to subscribe if there was no confident chance of getting work out of it. RP have a trial system in place which is cheap and makes sense - I wonder if that's been in place since the beginning.

I want to set up my own domain just to use for email (www.myname.co.uk), has anyone got an idiots guide or recommendation as to who to use?
Was thinking of then using Gmail to actually send any emails so auto-forwarding is a must

You can purchase domains via Google (who use "Friend of the Elephants" GoDaddy to make the registration) and then setup Gmail to run the email for the domain.
It's about as user friendly as trying to pet a rabid dog, that said.

skyline-hosting.co.uk have always done very well for me. Small company so I find much more approachable for technical queries than the giants.

I'm failing to successfully UTFS. Can someone point me in the direction of the tradespeople recommendations thread?
Even better, tell me who will do a good job of mending my oven.
Thanks

Is there any cheaper reflective tape than 3m? ...
-
• #36590
eBay. Loads of cheap reflective shit on there.
-
• #36591
Or poundshop for cheap LED gimmicks. Or glowsticks.
-
• #36592
Good shout loads of crap on ebay.
I'd like some long thin glow sticks to do the lengths of the blades on the 4 spoke...

Are over socks, or 'belgian booties' worth it?
-
• #36594
Yes.
-
• #36595
Nope.
Buy yourself some decent winter boots instead, such as the Shimano MW81...overshoes/socks are delicate and deteriorate as soon as you take 5 steps in them.
-
• #36596
I always get cold feet, any temperature below about 10C that is.
And what makes you think I would walk in them? I have neoprene overshoes as it is, but they're too hot for the weather atm, so I've been looking at oversocks too. -
• #36597
Black neoprene oversocks ftw. Makes you look like a proper semi-pro.
-
• #36598
I wish I could afford winter-specific shoes, tbh.
-
• #36599
I wore through 3 pairs of over boots.. £10, £25 then £30...
You can get winter boots that will last for years for around that money.

Ahh, I've been on the same pair since last December. £6 from Lidl ;).
wiki marks the overlords campaign.
