Got an old P3/256MB laptop that I want to run Linux on (puppy or DSL). What's the best supported and cheapest PCMCIA wireless adapter (no ethernet connection)?
Mark
Dunno, but I have a Belkin 54g 802.11b PCMCIA card from years ago, IIRC I did have it working under Linux. Free to a good home (it's just taking up space here) so PM me if you want it.

It's textured.
I think I'll need more than a hand since I can't do anything for longer than 10 mins without pain. Either have to hire someone cheap, ask a charity if any help's available or get a loan from DWP or credit union.Textured is going to need an agent of some description to get it free of the glass.
A hot air gun (which I have and you are welcome to borrow) would not be my choice for glass though as I would be concerned that the temperature difference across each pane of glass would cause them to crack.
The air gun is very effective on wood- the paint lifts straight off (in general).
So- a chemical paint stripper for the glass would be my choice.
How many doors are we talking about here?
What are the walls like?

I like both cranks but I prefer the FSA cranks better.

Many doors. 7? Although I've got my priorities and that would be kitchen and a small bedroom, as I need to start somewhere, so I can put furniture there and start living. Glass is only in one of them, but there are glass panels above one bedroom's door and a small glass panel under a banister on the stairs.
I found a chemical paint stripper in the cupboard. Might give it a try.I'll be in touch about the air gun and perhaps an sds drill at some point.
Walls are either covered with an old paper and painted over or cover with wallpaper. And some painted over again. Paper is bubbling around the radiators, so it has to go. Some wall corners in the corridor are damaged too. Some random trunking for cables all over the place...

Can someone find a diagram of the way of folding/rolling wire beaded tyres into three without damaging them too much? Need to get a pair in a suitcase ASAP. Cheers!
-
• #35313
no diagram but twist them into a figure 8 shape then flip them back on themselves, but do it more for a smaller bag

The trick is to grasp two opposite points and then bring them together and past each other to form something like a figure 8 with three loops. Then fold the top and bottom loop the same way onto the middle loop.

My other half wants to buy her first serious bike, so we went to Evans today just to see some in the flesh; she really liked Charge's Scourer. There are some good deals online but I'm a tad confused about sizing...
She's 164cm tall with a 77cm inside leg. This is what Evans says:
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/charge/scourer-2012-hybrid-bike-ec029991*
This is what Wiggle says:
Frame Size Rider Height (cm) Inside Leg (cm)
X-Small (15") 163 - 170 71 - 76
Small (17") 170 - 173 74 - 79
Medium (19") 173 - 178 76 - 81
Large (21") 178 - 185 81 - 90
X-Large 185 90They don't match. So which one to go for?
She's coming from an upright girl's town bike, so I'm thinking small so that she's not too stretched out, which may be a tad alien. Any thoughts?

I guess some pics would help, specifically the inside leg.
Failing that trying stuff is the best option, even if it's a similar sized different bike. -

Failing that trying stuff is the best option, even if it's a similar sized different bike. That could've gone a lot worse on LFGSS. There's a sale on, £349, so she's going to order sharpish - no time to try. Not how I'd do it, but there you go...

Pop down another bike shop with a tape measure, sit her on some stuff and measure them. Buy something from said bike shop.
-
• #35321
Failing that I guess too small could be better than too large, better for polo anyway.

Why do I like the phrase "failing that" tonight?

Picked up a pair of Mavic 520s laced to Mavic Argent 10 rims, 36 hole tied and soldered. Very nice, very light, but tubular.
For running around town do I - buy cheap tubulars at £25 a piece or better tubulars at £40 a piece, then deal with all the crap that comes with them. Or do I buy some clincher rims and tires, which will probably set me back a similar amount, then rebuild the wheels and never worry about tubs again.
-
• #35325
Buy some £17 tubs, ride 'em for a bit, see if you like them. You can always rebuild if you want, but you may find you actually really like tubs. I had the same dilemma, but have been commuting on tubs for a few months now, really really like them.
