I am struggling to see disorder around that sticker in the photo. It's not a public order offence.

Section 5 (I may have said 4 earlier, it's been a while) of the Public Order Act 1986 -

    Harassment, alarm or distress.
(1)A person is guilty of an offence if he—
(a)uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour, or
(b)displays any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting,
within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby.

A police officer only needs to have reasonable grounds to suspect that the offense has been committed to arrest (which is why if you are ever arrested - worse luck - there is no point arguing with the PC about proof as they don't need "proof" to arrest). Whether that person is prosecuted or not is down to firstly the Custody Sergeant and then the CPS.

I could (as could anyone else) easily make a case to arrest (not necessarily prosecute) someone for having that sticker displayed in public. There being many members of the public who are likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress by that word.

Let's not forget, I never said that what the CoL PC has done here was a right and publically useful thing to do, that is a much larger debate that I am not interested in getting into here. I only said that he could arrest the offender and be in no wrong by the letter of the law.

  • It's not an offence unless it is "likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress".

Arguably, a small sticker on a bike is unlikely to do so, and the fact that a jobsworth bizzy doesn't like it is neither here nor there.

We're missing some information here: did he deploy that note because he happened to spot the cuntmobile, or because an offended person (possibly on a day trip from Tumbridge Wells) came into the station demanding that something be done about it ?

    We don't know.

In the latter case his response seems reasonable to me. He has to do something to get rid of the complainant. Saying "yes sir, it refers to your mum" might have been what he wanted to do but he knew he couldn't.

  • why does one have to " slam that stem " ? is it just aesthetics or do they snap regualrly if not down as far as they can go ?

  • It shows that you are flexible and therefore a pro.

  • Hides your wobbly belly if you are bent over far enough

  • Cheers for all the irthday suggestions. The brewery tour sounds good.

A female friend wants to buy a bike on the ride2work scheme.

In here words she wants something lighter and has her eye on the fuji feather. What are her other options in terms of similar SS bikes that could be available on that scheme?

    Langster, Plug, Fuji...?

You'd really need to look at the wieghts, but I'd think an alu langster with a lighter wheelset would be the best.

    P l u g s are heavy.

Also the sloping TT would suit a girl for when she wears shirts etc. plus they have decent tyre clearance and rear rack mounts.

  • How do I resize this?

  • can I resize it?

  • Well, it's not actually an image tag.

  • This better?

  • Also the sloping TT would suit a girl for when she wears shirts etc.

    ?

  • ^^Not really. Link to the original page?

  • Could I not link to the img here and change the size?

    • Skirt

Fucking iPhones. I just meant that having a lower TT helps if you're wearing a skirt in the same why an old school ladies frame would.

(altho I've never actually ridden a bike while wearing a skirt so what the fuck do I know?)

  • Diy a lungi and give it a go.

  • In their TdF commentary, Phil and Paul insist on saying, by way of explanation, 'in the month of' prior to naming any month. Is this to assuage any doubt we may have that August is actually a semi-precious stone, and January a historical scoundrel?

  • I think it's more to do with the fact that they have to fill hours and hours of TV every day. Why use one word when you can stretch it to five? Same reason they reel off all that historic description of every building the tour passes. It's like taking a long car journey with elderly relatives.

  • Just imagine what it'd be like if the BBC were covering it...

  • Fearne Cotton?

  • "amazing"

  • Literally.

  • Anyone commute from Pisti's favourite town, Brighton?

Just been offered a room with two good friends in a ridiculously beautiful house in a nice part of Hove. My concern is costs/times of getting either to clients in Putney or to Soho when I need to.

Currently live in Clapton, so an hour and a half door to door to Putney if I catch the train with equipment or a 45 min sweaty cycle. And to Soho 60 minute bus journey with gear or 25 minute cycle. Train ticket from Hackney Central to Putney £45.00 p/month. Plus PAYG Oyster averaging about £20.00 p/week.

Weekly train ticket from Brighton to Putney: £86.70
    Monthly: £333.00

But wouldn't need to come in every week. Probably every second week for main client (Putney) and then occasional days in Soho.

Rent is marginally more expensive than what I pay at the moment, but still very good (I pay dirt at the moment which is why I've lived in the same shit-hole for three years).

Think I've answered my own question re. costs. But what about hassle - i.e. are trains often delayed on the line between Brighton/Clapham? Easy to get a seat? Frequent? Earliest train leaving Brighton? Latest train leaving Clapham?
