The shifters are the ones on the down tube I -think- its a ten speed 11 - 25 shimano rear hub. I'm guessing it will probably not work very well thinking again!
If the shifters are on the downtube they are most likely friction type therefore you can probably use all the gears on the hub and not just 5. The deraileur doesn't care how many sprockets there are, it does what the shifter tells it within the limits of its overall travel.

building a tourer with 47/36 rings up front, 14/28 6 spd freewheel
do i need a long cage rear mech? or is that really only for a triple?
medium will be fine, even small is acceptable.
47/36 is a pretty small jump to required such derailleur.

i have both a suntour VX GT long cage rear
or a Suntour AREither would work. VX is better quality, but pick the one which is in the best condition (i.e. least free play in the parallelogram) to get the best shifting.

What ultegra rear 10spd mech do I need for the commuto x bike.
I have DA 7800 shifters, an ultegra 6750 50/34 crankset and an 11/28 cassette in the parts bin.
Most of the time the bike will be used on the road and for carrying stuff. But there may be times when I want to drop the gearing a little lower. It looks like changing to some smaller chainrings might be an option.
So what rear mech should I go for, and what options do I have for chainrings for offroad or carrying loads up hills etc?
I am terrible at working this stuff out, I think 50 + 28 - (34 + 11) indicates I need a rear mech that can take up 33 t, but if I am to run a lower gearing, what are the options, and is there a rear mech that can do it all for me?
Should I just go for the Ultegra medium cage mech (i can't find an ultegra long cage) or should I look at a 105 or is there another mech I should consider?

It seems the spokes weren't the only non NJS item on my Panasonic, it's got a fucking eyesore of a seat bolt that sticks out about an inch on one side, anyone know what kind of bolt I need that will flush fit? Campag one from my Bob Jackson doesn't fit, too thick...

6750 cranks won't take rings smaller than 34
Shimnao road RDs won't go bigger than 27t (well, they're not supposed to; you can sometimes get away with a few more, 28 will be no problem)
The RD-6600-GS will work with what you have, you can't do properly low gears with Shimano road parts without going to a triple front. -

Like my currently-for-sale ultegra groupset...

East and North London. Cheap bags of onions. All in the same red-string bags. Everywhere. What's that about eh? Did they come on the same boat as the watermelons? The not knowing is killing me.

I have used firefox for ages. No problems. All updates come along automatically. Fine.
Over the last few weeks Firefox has started having massive trouble with video - youtube, vimeo, sports streaming, tv streaming - and i've started using IE for video. Why?!!?!?! WTF is going on?!?!?! What downloads / plugins have somehow not updated themselves??!?!?
I find installing VLC - (videolan.org) usually sorts any of my pc related video watching issues.

Try right-clicking on any video, go to 'settings' and uncheck the enable hardware acceleration button.

How come riders on Fixed-gear typically overtake riders on gear pedaling (notFreeWheelin) at downhill streches - Fixedgear rider revin' up 130-170RPM cadence - I don't get the physics - some _tester'ish creature please lent me a hand! :)

Are there any other notable wordpress alternatives? I'm not adverse to wordpress i'd just be interested if theres anything better

^^You're riding with the wrong geared riders.

Roadie's typically pace themselves and excel over longer distances, FG riders know nothing of the sort, especially when fellow (in their eyes) cyclist is ahead.

Depends what you mean by better spotter? Wordpress is the biggest blog platform but they may be other choices more suited to you.

It's easier to pedal a fixed gear fast if you're still applying forward torque, so downhill your options are to go slow all the way down or keep it slow to begin with then let it roll and spin for the bottom part.
Cool, thanks
