solvent cement is your friend.
In a cancer-giving kind of way, but it works a treat.

Are filed forks dodgy?
Assuming he's filed a 27.0 steerer base down to 26.4 to fit an ISO crown race onto a fork designed for JIS, then yes, a file is the wrong tool. There's a good chance that the crown race, when fitted, will either not have the correct interference fit, or will be non-circular. In either case, you can expect accelerated headset wear and possibly difficulty in achieving the correct bearing preload to give minimal headset friction and minimal free play, leading to poor handling.

So it won't cause death but getting it built up with weld then lathing it round again would be a good idea?
-
• #29855
Not worth repairing, depending on urgency of need for a fork either live with it or wait for something better to turn up. Maybe get somebody to run the correct tool over it, there might be enough material left to get it right.

Would people on this forum be interested in a thread which discusses the latest planning applications/consultations in progress around London?
It's important cyclists have a say as early as possible in the development process so we can try to ensure enough bike stands, road space, surfaces, signage, speed limits etc. etc. are factored in to plans and not left as an afterthought.
So for instance, developers St.George have bought One Blackfriars.
They've started the pre-planning application process for a new planning application. In that plan, a route under Blackfriars Road, reconnecting Upper Ground with Hopton Street is included.
The reapplication for this site is a golden opportunity to work towards this happening creating a contiguous route parallel to the riverside path.
Southwark Cyclists will push for this - as always, I'm interested to know what others think.
We can all submit our views here: http://www.stgeorgeblackfriars.co.uk/
I wont be offended if this idea goes down like a sack of potatoes.

start a thread, see what happens
if it has legs then it will run

I'd be interested in the planning app thread for sure.
Now, who can recommend me a grease for repacking Quando hubs?
-
• #29859
Man grease and man grease alone will do that job.

Common automotive grade molybdenum disulphide grease, e.g. Shell Retinax AM. If you can't be bothered to nip down to a motor factor to pick up a big tin, then this will fit the bill

Will I get laughed at if I use some TT base bars as bullhorns without extensions?
these are very tempting for £30.Where from? Cheap ting... but just bought some T2s...

Do I have really weak fingers, pro riders have really strong fingers or do pro teams have bidons that are much softer and more flexible than any that I've come across?
You see them effortlessly squeeze the shit out of them when they're drinking, but the bodies of all mine (mostly Elite Hygiene) are way too stiff to really do that (may also have too small an opening to allow a high enough flow rate, but I don't think the bottles would flex like that even with the lid off).

My SIS bottles are particularly squishy... and my hi5 ones aren't too bad. Never had any issue though, apart from with the BRP style metal ones... (:
Maybe you need this...

Ah cheers for the link, I didn't realise they were 26, already got a 31.8 stem.
-
• #29866
I need new some new forks and a headset but I fancy sticking a quill stem on there instead.
The bent forks were 1" threadless with 200mm steerer so I assume I need 1" threaded but do I need to worry about the diameter of the headtube, do headsets have different round fitting thingstuff?
Basically which is usually the cheapest option if both 1" and 1"1/8 fit?
Back on the steerer length. Do I need one with 200mm including thread - does the minimum thread have to match the stack height.
Need to know this stuff before I go robbing peoples parts bins without dragging the carcass around with me.

Driving in from Nottingham, haven't really looked at a route yet. We're staying near the Radisson. Staying for three nights too so don't mind ditching the car somewhere since we won't be using it.
We had heard about a park and ride that might be useful?
Cheers
Not sure about a park and ride, it's 4 years since i lived in Edinburgh and I've never owned a car. If you park just south of the meadows then its a pleasant walk into town and quite flat incase your'e carrying bags. There might be places closer in too but i'm not sure about parking restrictions.

I need new some new forks...
You need 1", not 1 1/8".
Stack height of whatever headset you're going to use (if you're going from threadless to threaded you'll need a new one*) plus length of your head tube will tell you the minimum steerer length you'l need, with the threaded portion extending below that minimum.
If you find some forks with a longer steerer, they can be cut down, and it's usually possible to get more thread added by a decent LBS or framebuilder.*unless your current one can be converted *a la *Chris King...
-
• #29870
Steerer looks too long if you were using 200mm with AHead, so you'll have to cut it down and most likely extend the thread too.

Any other UK stockists of the 2012 Charge Bowl bars? Winstanley's have them but they aren't in stock, I'm bot sure how long it'll take them to order and ship.
-
• #29872
@ **craftybutcher **- I wouldn't bother with a quill if I were you. Ahead is better, and as you'll need a new top race to the headset then more money.
Does anyone know if Sunrace are any good?
I need a square taper crankset, either a triple or a compact and saw these Sunrace R90 compact double chainset's on ebay.
Thoughts?

Cheers hugo7 that's me sold, cheaper the better but I still need a new headset as I binned the old one by accident...
Ebay has loads of 1 1/8 forks for 20 notes...balls

Slightly gash graphics, but you could gently sand them off and lacquer, or spray black .

It's a knock about/pub/station bike so cheaper the better
What are you trying to stick plastic to?
