Sticky Stuff Remover
If you want industrial quantities (and you do, as it's a very handy general purpose degreaser), search for d-limonene. While you're in the industrial solvents shop, get some isopropanol too, to remove the residues of d-limonene.
Just use some alcohol. You can get Isopropyl alcohol in most chemists which is perfect but anything would do. D-limonene can be found in cheap washing up liquid.

Noel Gallagher's latest rag-tag collection of third-rate buskers have an album out which, from hearing on the TV, has a lyric - 'If I had a gun, I'd shoot a hole into the sun'.
Why should we tolerate this abject crap?
If we stop buying their records maybe they will go away.
This advice was first published in NME under the heading "Sophie Ellis Bextor: A Possible Solution"

And in lemons, but not very much in either case. It's much better than IPA for removing glue residues, and not very expensive. Cheap washing up liquid contains loads of shit you don't want anywhere near your bike.

On that note, what will remove tubular glue that will also not remove the paint/surface treatment on the rims?

Look on the tubular glue tube/tin for the warning label. When I were a lad, it was toluene and xylene, but that's probably frowned upon now. Acetone is often recommended, but Zinn has many answers on all aspects of the use and care of tubulars, e.g.
http://velonews.competitor.com/2010/03/bikes-and-tech/technical-faq/technical-faq-end-of-season-rim-and-tire-care_106719
suggesting a better alternative. Many Naptha mixtures contain aromatic hydrocarbons, of which toluene and xylene are examples. All of them are pretty nasty, so educate yourself about the safety precautions for working with them. You can get straight toluene and xylene from my favourite online chem store
http://mistralni.co.uk/catalogue/product/159/Toluene
http://mistralni.co.uk/catalogue/product/153/Xylene
The American brand recommended in that Zinn article is aliphatic, which will take slightly longer to kill you than aromatic types. Examples of aliphatic solvents are hexanes e.g.
http://mistralni.co.uk/catalogue/product/49/Hexane
http://mistralni.co.uk/catalogue/product/447/Cyclohexane-GRG
Cyclohexane seems safest to your health, but is probably a much less effective glue solvent than the aromatics above. -

MEK is the one for dissolving gums and resins, be careful with tyres and plastic contact though.
or formulate your own lab cleaning solvent:
50% acetone
25% isopropyl alcohol
20% xylene
5% ethylbenzene -

Carbon rims, tubular (obviously), and they've put a thin coat of matte black on them.
I just want to to get the last few bits of glue off the tyres (I used the edge of my gym card to get it off the brake track), without FUBAR'ing the finish.
I may just break out the gym card again.

I have a set of DA700 cranks. In the past they have been ridden while loose so the splines are fubar. I remember that octalink was a bit shit?
Is it worth me replacing the cranks with DA700s or should I just go for something modern. Like external BB Tiagra/105
