ooh, that's fun! Never noticed that thing before.
-
• #21978
Yep, it's a flightdeck control - flicking between set-ups/resets/screen views, that kind of thing
-
• #21979
not as far as i know
-
• #21980
Yep, on the Principia road bike, Ultegra.

• #21981
I like the idea in principle

on my new XT groupset there was the option for the indicator windows, i took them off.
really not sure what the point is, if you have sensation in your legs (and possibly a cadence sensor) you really ought to be able to deduce if your gearing is inappropriate
so a little indicator for what gear you are in seems a little pointless

Actually, It's pretty good. Have used for 8 years or so and it's not screwed up. Bit of a faff to fit perhaps but I kind of like the feature telling you which gear you're in etc. I presume it's pretty much superceded by a Garmin type computer though these days no?
-
• #21984
Possibly......but nice to be sure you haven't finally reduced yourself to the 11 cog with miles still to go
-
• #21985
Have seen it on bikes on ebay/ for sale.

I'm surprised that Garmin and their ilk don't have a gear indicator (other than an one inferred from cadence / speed) - It might be useful for the anoraks when calculating power / intensity / effort at a particular gearing / cadence / speed.
£20 says that Garmin etc don't want to pay Shimano a licence fee, and might be a bit of an own goal if they align with one gruppo variety over another.
It might be interesting- I'd look at it on a graph for sure, but I reckon power/cadence/speed cover what you need to know.

Shimano make the flight deck and Campag did one but I cant remember what it was called. Both were a pain in the backside to set up.

ErgoBrain.

Thats the one. I think we might still have one at the shop.
-
• #21991
If it will work with 8 speed then dibs- I'll get it for Fenella for Christmas
-
• #21992
Call me tomorrow and I'll have a look.

If it is that much of a pain to set up, do you really want to find it?
Dammit, do you have someone to transport the bars to wests? I am going through the city tomorrow
-
• #21994
I didn't say I'd set it up.
-
• #21995
Thanks for the offer James, but I might do it myself now- tomorrow was meant to be rest day, but I spent yesterday evening at St Thomas' rather than on the turbo, so I'm counting that as my rest day and therefore tomorrow I need to get 2 hours in on the bike.
Re the Ergo Brain, I reckon it sounds like a challenge- something to do whilst eating 75kg of mince pies.

You're not supposed to set them up in your backside.
Can't get the staff these days, honestly.

• #21997
Ha ha - yes, ErgoBrain - that's right.
I can just about imagine a corny 1990's era Eurosport advert endorsed by Cipollini
.......be fast, be a winner......ERGOBRAIN

Pies you say? Need a hand?

So thats why the customers always left them behind.

left my phone in a friends car. Can I cancel the sim, and get a new one with the same number tomorrow? or does it take time?
-
• #22000
Seems a bit extreme. Couldn't you just see your friend one more time?
