  • Chainline is off in what sense? Sprocket is too close to the hub, or too far out from the hub?

If too close, would a spacer or 2 behind the sprocket sort it? I use one behind my sprocket as I use a converted 105 Hollowtech Double chainset (with the single chainring in place of the outer) for mah fixeh.

  • or, hope produce bottom bracket spacer washers

  • I split the sidewall in my two week old tyre. Can I repair it? I already wasted £10 on my race entry today after flatting 30 minutes in, so I'd rather not have to buy another tyre. The inner tube isn't visible yet, though the sidewall is bulging.

Plastic inside the tyre? inner tube patch? or perhaps stitching it up?

  • You can bodge it. But finding a proper repair kit might be a struggle. A tub repair kit should work, they come with the correct needles and thread, Velox make them.

    Just found this - http://www.probikekit.com/uk/tyres-tubes/bicycle-tyre-tubular-accessories/velox-tubless-tyre-repair-kit.html

  • 126 spaced steel frame + 130 hub - man do can do or need to respace hub?

  • Steel frame? Can do, just pull the dropouts apart when fitting the wheel.
Alu? Respace, seen too many alu frames crack with too wide hubs in them.

  • what I thought, just wanted to double check. ta.

  • 126 spaced steel frame + 130 hub - man do can do or need to respace hub?

I've been doing just that on my steel road frame. It's fine. A word of warning, though: it is quite a faff getting the wheel in and out of the dropouts. Needs three hands, really. However in my book it's preferrable to cold-setting the frame, and allows me to run a modern 9 speed group on a 126mm OLN frame with no noticeable performance issues.

  • if superjoe can get his 120 spaced wheel into his 110 frame, I'm sure I'll cope with 4mm (:

  • Is it possible to cut a thread into an alloy fork steerer if it's currently threadless?

  • Why is it that I happily rode a second hand bike at speeds in excess of 40 (admittedly not very often and only down hill) without a second thought but was a lot more nervous to do so after swapping the bars and all the cables myself and despite torqueing everything up to manufacturers specs?

  • everything becomes more steady above 50...

  • perceived risk is a funny one.

  • The first slope I went down the bike felt extra twitchy. In hindsight that was me being too tense.
We survived a 20 mile round trip so all's good.

  • what alloy?
if it's steel then in theory yes but not many people have the right die and if they do then it's likely to be blunt, so the thread is ruined on the way back up. also most places would charge about £20 per inch so it probably wouldn't work out very well financially either.

    aluminium?
    no

  • everything becomes more steady above 50...

Note to self - find a steeper hill

I just stitched it up with an ordinary needle and some floss, seemed to do the trick okay.

  • having had a tyre blow out, i would rather spend the money on a new one than take a needless risk

  • It's a cyclocross tyre. I probably wouldn't try the same on a road tyre but this won't see pressures any higher than 40 psi.

  • Anyone rebuilt their Speedplay Zero pedals with these titanium spindles?

    http://www.itsall4sports.com/goods/detail.asp?id=509

  • weightweenies forum

Seriously, IIRC there's a whole thread about rebuilding speedplays (and what a bunch of cunts speedplay are if you dare mention their name in your ebay advert for aftermarket spare parts)

  • I remember that article. Something along the lines of Speedplay suing the bloke who was selling a kit of bearings on one of the forums and ebay. Also they stopped him from showing others which bearings they needed to buy. Bullshit imo. I can see that they wanted to make a profit from the servicing market but the percentage of profit was ridiculous iirc

  • but lfgss is dammit's google, so he does not need to look these things up

for a man with a lot of weightweenie questions its odd that he asks them here

  • Charging $100 for $10 worth of bearings is cuntish. Suing the bloke who points this out is cuntish²

  • are we trying to insinuate that speedplay are a bunch of cunts?

can someone clarify that speedplay are cunts for their ridiculously aggressive business tactics?
