  • "It's important to let HMRC know that you're self-employed as soon as possible - even if you already fill in a Self Assessment tax return each year. If you don't tell them, you may have to pay a penalty.

You can let HMRC know about your self-employment by completing the Self Assessment registration forms. HMRC will use the information to set up the right National Insurance records for you too."

  • that form was where i got to, but it asked me the name of my buisness?

  • I haven't been self employed for about six years but I think I just put that as T/A First Name Last Name (Trading as).

  • excellent, thanks mr henge

  • Thank me when you know I'm right!

Never piss off the revenue. They always get their pound of flesh and once you are on their radar, there is no shaking those parasites.

  • I have received some neutral rep (i.e. "0" where it would otherwise say "+1")

How do you give that out? (And why I guess)

  • 0 is if it's from a new user or someone with too much negative rep I believe

  • I think that comes from new members, or members without much rep as a safeguard against new members repping willy-nilly

  • Will I regret installing a rear brake (as well as a front) on my first fixed gear bike?

Just put a rear brake on my fixed wheel (in advance of going down some steep hills this weekend).

It's weird when you try it for the first time though (if you're used to fixed) as it's strange to control your leg speed with your left hand!

  • any freelancers out there, i need your help.

basically, i start a new job in january, so ive found a stop gap at a furniture makers for the next few weeks to fill the space

problem is, i'm not registered freelance. It's only going to be for 4-6 weeks, then im going back to PAYE. I can't find a simple answer to 'how the fuck do i register as freelance'

or is it just a case of filling in a tax return next year and declare it?

any help here will be much appriece

The easy way to do this would be to use an umbrella company, I've used Cxc global and found that it was very pain free.

  • I have a week's holiday from work I must take before xmas, I'd rather have the cash but they won't do it..

anyone got any ideas of anything I can do/know anyone who needs help for just a week in the next month or so?

  • what options are there train wise to go from london euston to holyhead, bringing a bike with me?

what websites should i try? im not from england so I dont know any of the train companies

  • My tax returns?

  • where is the best place for this?

  • might be able stick your tax returns up there I suppose, how big is the pile? will it take all week?

  • Maybe less.

  • Deffo less!

  • hmph, probably better to tell hrmc to stick them up their arse, I imagine it will save you money in the long run

  • I was talking to myself :(

  • What is 'rep'?

  • I've a 50's Holdsworth which I believe originally had 27" wheels, it's currently running 700c, but I'm considering changing them for something different. Should I go back to 27" wheels to close some of the clearance or am I better off sticking with 700c for the greater number (I'm assuming this) of wheel / tyre options available. I'm very budget conscious and don't want to limit myself unduly. I'd ideally like to find some chrome / silver / alu finish rims, rather than black.

  • Stick to 700c, there's very little available in 27" these days
