Eight and a half miles, Forest Hill>Brockley>OKR>London Bridge=30 minutes.

beckton -> ferry -> woolwich rd -> trafalgary rd -> greenwich high rd -> new cross rd -> peckham rd -> camberwell new rd -> vasall rd to clapham rd.
it's a bit of a stupid question really, obviously it's just that I'm slower than most people (seemingly, everyone) on the forum. bah.
Taking a literal translation of that route starting at Beckton DLR and stopping immediately at Clapham Road, that's over ten miles of commuting. Taking into consideration the ferry, which easily adds at least ten minutes into the commute (loading, sailing, unloading etc) I'd reckon around 50 minutes to an hour would be a reasonable speed.
However, it is a pretty busy route and easy to get tied up in. I would guess that part of the issue is as much opportunism and assertiveness as it is about physical speed.

Took the computer off my bike as getting fixated on beating pb's and top speed didn't seem like the safest way to be riding around town.

Is which is the better choice between, a Gebhardt chainring;
and a stronglight zicral:
or is it down to just aesthetics?

Sorted (Charlie's ones have no logo printed on them - you can write Sugino Zen with tipex).

I don't have a computer either - just going on approximate times. As I said I'm more used to pootling around the back streets as I don't regularly commute at rush hour, it was just cos people were posting their times recently.

I did look at the brev ones actually, but its too late now. I already got the stronglight as i needed to order some other things from ribble

They're not as shite as they look, if anyone else wonders.

I find that the cheap chainring is never straight, after a year worth of usage, the very cheap Lasco crankset on my dad's bike isn't exactly straight anymore.

Can't comment. Never kept bike for more than a year.

Hi peeps
Anyone know of a decent not too expensive frame builder around london/hertfordshire area? And whats the sort of price ill be looking to pay for one?
Cheers

The very few frame builders still in business in this country rightly have no interest in 'not too expensive', unless your idea of not too expensive is anything under a grand.

Depends on the material, and what you want.

Using the ferry feel free to wave as you go past the house.

Post Office doesn't charge for it and that's at least something.
I also used Travelex pre-paid Master Card. It has a good rate when charged online.
This card works well in Belgium, Holland and Germany - I had no problem whatsoever and there's a history of failure in Germany. -

Does the marks and sparks in putney have a bureau de change? They do it for free. I've used the one just inside the kings exchange too. Or book online to go collect some from a travelex or get a card like EEI said.

What's the situation with tax/VAT on stuff from AmerIca? For a used frame would I have to pay some sort of percentage of the price?
Sorry if there's a thread devoted to this, I had a quick search but I'm on teh move so wasn't very thorough.

Thanks Tiswas. That makes things pretty expensive, putting a downer on my spending party. Fuck you Elizabeth and your evil tax hounds.

Oi, that tax pays for my daughter's free education in a finest inner city school of East London (*she's doomed)!
ps. remember to add Parcelforce's handling fee (if you're using them).
when I was at uni my commute was 7 miles each way, half of that in my deleted post. it took exactly as long as a quick effort. I used to go straight through the city and the traffic lights were killer.
