What front wheel would be better:
a) A new Miche Primato laced to a DP18 rim, or
b) A second hand BLB hub laced to a SL42 H+SonFor riding on the streets and racing on the track ?
Miche primato > blb
I been riding DP18s from Varno for over a year, have done a few 1000 miles and they are still stiff straight and strong,

^^Yes. But there's only one post...
....and with it being a London forum and everyone either living in Dulwich or the East End I thought I'd have a 50:50 shot at someone with some knowledge.

I can't find a decent pic of an h+ with the dimensions, but if you can I guess I'd go for the one that is the most aero.

Curtain road...The Old Blue Last? The Strongroom? The Horse & Groom? All quite loud places though, not great for a quiet chat, although there's loads of heated tables at The Strongroom where you can sit outside and actually hear yourself think.

Lil - that's the kind of thing that custom framing places deal with. Unlikely to be cheap sadly.
you could try toye kenning & spencer, but as aroogah commented this sort of thing isn't cheap
Thank you. I know it isn't cheap, but James holds his grandad close to his heart, and it's worth the money for proper display of medals.

and while you mention it, I have actively avoided the east end ever since I moved to London.
I am now abondoning the cold windy climes of north west London and moving to Dulwich, does this make me a hipster?

Yeah, his wheels are great. I'm keeping the rear wheel I got from him (Miche-Pegasus), but need a machined front wheel. Someone is selling the H+Son for the same price and thought it would be worth asking...

Does aerodynamics matter that much if I'm using it for road and track? I thought that was more just for TT and triathlon riders?

DP18's are good rims, and are a bit lighter than the SL42s, to be honest I dont think you'll notice the "aero" effects of the H+ so if its not a matter of price i suppose its down to aesthetics.
-

I wouldn't think it would matter on the road (ie riding round ldn), but surely aerodynamics is important on the track as you're actually hitting a decent speed.
Cheers, that's really helpful.

Yes. Dulwich is now what shoreditch was in 1991 ;)

Well, basically changing the front wheel of this bike so I can run a brake and going from drops to bull bars (when on the road).

IIRC SL42s arent machined, and the anodizing will probably squeak like a bitch, so personally id go with the dp18s. Ive been running them for the past 18 months or so and they've stood up well to commuting and polo

The SL42's are machined. The one I'm looking at isn't anodized on the braking surface, either, as it's second hand and been rubbed off or never been anodized. http://hplusson.com/index.php?/sl42/
The current wheel I have is great but is anodized and does indeed squeal like a bitch!

I know I've been asking too many questions today, but can anyone suggest a good place for a drink date on or around curtain road?
Yep. Check out Callooh Callay on Rivington St. Really cool, unusual cocktails. Nice little place for a date too. Even has a wardrobe you can walk through into another part of the bar.

In which case it is very much down to aesthetics.

this is the dent i was on about yesterday
it's in the middle of the top tube, and in the bottom pic it's the bit missing on the right hand side
how bad is this if I want to use it off road? I'm pretty sure its just from carelessly swinging handlebars

What is a *useful *inexpensive part that I can buy from Ribble that costs more than 80p?
(to get me over the £35 for an extra 20% discount)
Cheers.

I say you'll be fine. I've ridden on worse and seen worse but then it's still down to how you feel in riding it. There's no point going off what someone has said on the internet, if you don't feel happy with it then don't ride it.

• #16972
Ride it till it breaks.
-
• #16973
yeah thanks, thats what i thought but it bugs me the more i look at it. I feel fine riding it about on the road, I never had alu frame for off road though, I'm a bit anxious about a 15 year old frame that feels thin as coke cans

I went to Teh Strongroom on a Guardian Soulmates date and got so fucked I collapsed on my bedroom floor. She made it to my bed though.
