Why does a round pizza come in a square box?
What disease did cured ham actually have?
If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?
Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're
both dogs!If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't
he just buy dinner? If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from
vegetables, what is baby oil made from? -

How do you say Time ATAC?
Would you say "A T A C" or "Attack"?

Smart cars are designed for city centre use, so how come hardly anyone uses them in London?
The law of unintended consequences.
Councils litter every street with speed bumps.
So everyone ditches their small city cars and uses big high 4x4s instead. -

i'm fed up with my rapidly failing make-shift stereo set up so i have some audio equipment related questions if you please?
1 - why can't i find the audiophile/stereo/audio equipment thread?
2 - where, these days does one go to find inexpensive second hand 1970s/80s japanese "silver" stereo components?
3 - should i in fact forget that line of enquiry and go modern?
and finaly,
4 - can someone recomend me some decent but budget-conscious; bookshelf speakers, cd player and amp?
thank you.
al.
Edit - I currently have a crappy dvd player as a cd player, a cambridge audio amp and some nice '70s mordaunt short speakers. i think the tweeter has gone on one speaker, I've never liked the amp particularly and the dvd player was an emergency "temporary" replacement and i think is the source of a nasty sounding distortion at any kind of volume. yuk.

I used to have 2 systems. One a cambridge audio "Azure 540" (i think) Amp and CD with some small Gale bookshelve speakers. sounded great for not many notes.
The second was based around a NAD amp and matching CD with some Krix (aussie brand) KDX speakers. Again, nice sounding for not much.
Separate components are highly recommended.
On the vintage stuff, I also used to have an old Marantz. Classic silver facia, turned alloy knobs, blue lighting...schweeeeet. Sounded amazing and warm, but was low on power and after hours of use could begin to overheat and distord. Old transistors/circuits can be tempremental.
Sorry I cant help with where to buy. Back of hi fi mags in classifieds?
I should add, if you want hassle free go modern, but choose wisely.

Yeah. Old Hi-Fi is good. I have an old Marantz record player i got for a tenner in a second hand shop, sounds ace. a modernish pioneer amp, Wharfdale CD player, big old silver Rotel Tuner from the rag market for a fiver. some eltax speakers. sounds ace. Didn't all that stuff used to be sold in richer sounds? or do they just do TVs now?
Just trawl ebay.
