I've seen the ACP approach work on soft metals but when I tried it on mild steel it wasn't so good, as you say.
Masking tape with guidelines drawn on it sometimes helps with alignment, if only to reduce the tendency for the stamp to skate around, though I'm guessing that won't be a problem on leather. -

I've had square blocks clamped to the job and the alignment still ends up askew.

I would like to make a small inscription on a couple of black leather belts.
Are these my best bet?

Does pyrography work on black leather? Not sure (amazon is something I avoid, some others don’t), I bought two lettering sets for saddle stuff from a supplier in the north-east, it’s called LePrevo. Here’s their tool page, I bought the T35 and T31 sets.
If you happen to be in London I’d be happy to lend them btw. Due to forum protocol beer or bike parts must be exchanged, or a donation to the forum itself. I don’t make the rules guv.

Cheers Beagle! Hope you’re well dude?!

It sounds like you've tried harder than I have! It's reassuring (for me) to believe there isn't an easy solution and my badly aligned lettering is just how things are.

I think that's about the size of it.... there's probably a career in getting letters to align....

Ah cheers, I’m up in Leeds unfortunately. And yes, I should avoid the scourge that is Amazon.
I want to emboss a date and initials on some leather gloves, a belt and a metal box. It’s no great problem if it looks shit, so I’m just going to plough in and see what happens.

On the plus side it was a cold winter and we worked with the doors open. No smells.

Is this the right way to put these wooden jibbers in frames? It came with 8 but I don't see how two per corner would work

Article on that government consultation on units and measures. Might have been useful if they'd published it before the survey finished?

Is iCloud+ worth it, or is it just better to back up locally? My issue is partly that my only computer is an iPad Air4 and I haven’t been able to back up anything other than pics on my separate drive. A crash wouldn’t be a catastrophe but it would definitely be a painful experience. My next computer will definitely be a laptop…

My mac has has deleted all the music on my device and I have to repeatedly re-download it. It also deletes random photos. I'm sure this is to do with encouraging you to use the cloud. I think it is deeply sinister and I too have moved to PC.
I definitely second the bit about lining up the characters being a challenge - it's a frikkin' nightmare. Achieving an even depth is easier - at least it is if you are stamping aluminium.
I punch a dimple into the blunt end of the stamp. Then, using an automatic centre punch, place the pointy end of the automatic centre punch into the dimple, and it isn't difficult to achieve a consistent depth of punch. Not sure that an ACP has enough grunt in the spring to achieve the same on steel.
