The ones I've fitted have all seemed relatively smooth, never noticed a notchy one at least.

Hm. Ok. Think I'll just throw it in. Ta tester & snotter.

There was a guy on Retrobike who seemed to have repeated issues and premature failures. I couldn't quite tell if it was his installation technique causing it though.

another layer of jb weld
I'm also interested in this. I mended the arm of cast iron desk lamp, gave it 24 hours, but it didn't hold

That's nice. I have a couple of Richard Sapper Tizios about the house.
Golf club thread, here I come. -

There's a newly revived thread for drummers that might be a better place to ask!

I'd like a pair of prescription sunglasses with some fancy lenses, like gold mirror or something, not just the regular boring brown or green or grey.
Are there comapnies that actually offer this?
I looked at Oakley and the like, and while they offer "prescription" sunglasses in the end this just means you get the frame, just without the fancy lenses, and can put brown / green / grey lenses in instead, just like with every other fucking frame 💁Am I missing something here / is it just not technically possible to do things like prescription and mirrored etc. ?

prescription sunglasses with fancy lenses
I've found that a lot depends on how strong your prescription is. It's difficult to get straight answers to these questions unless you go into a posh optician and act like you have money to spend.

You mean sports style? Proper Oakley RX sellers used to do proper prescription Oakley lenses, have they stopped? They were fucking pricey, my black iridium Racing Jackets were £270 fifteen years ago.
Selectspecs have a limited range of modestly priced cycling sunnies which are available in mirror finish on some lens materials. This is their silver flash polarised on some non-sports frames for example

Yeah, sports style.
I haven't been to a Oakley RX seller, just checked the website.
Turns out there's no option to order something fancy with prescription from the GER site (neither via the UK one for that matter), but with the US site you suddenly have all the options 💁♂️

I had the same. Fucked splines as tester already said.
Take out the crank bolt and washer/coverthingy.
That way you can check if the splines engage correctly. I greased them a bit too to the unlock turboengage(tm) but someone will be along shortly to tell me you shouldn't.
I then just red loctited the crank bolt, yanked it to eleven and it held suprisingly well.
Check for play every once in a while, if play again, repeat, till you find a replacement crankarm. Hope for you it's the nds, replacements are easier too find. The road and track nds are the same. -

I have been dealing with an optician in Cyprus for 20 years, he can do prescription lenses for Oakleys at amazing prices and excellent quality. I just got a pair back today, £110 in blue iridium. If you are interested, send a DM, I'll post a horrid picture of my hideous visage tomorrow.

Cheers man, appreciate it 👍
I did also chat with Oakley US, they know nothing of proper RX sellers in Europe 🙂

Should have known there’d be a thread!

Ooh I’ll dm too if you don’t mind .. :)

Used a few, none were notchy before installation.
Had one that expired very quickly though; common experience says they’re worse than UN-55.
I’ve started using Token square taper BBs instead; they feel much better made, with a CNC spindle and crabon sleeve. Not had one go crunchy yet. £30 direct from Taiwan.

I'm more like the (sir) Ben Kingsley character......
Forgot to say that Elean also sell Oakley frames, so you can get the complete package without necessarily having to send them the frames.

My god Colin, you're bald!

Who would have guessed? I am delighted to be your god.
Dunno about UN300, but Shimano hub bearings are routinely notchy off the bike when new. Like the hubs, the BB is an assembly of cheap bearings assembled at the factory with all the preload, so it's not surprising. I'm guessing you won't notice it when assembled and it will smooth out a bit when broken in.
