I saw him a few years ago. Not really my thing musically but he's unbelievably talented. I saw Battles a few times as well, ridiculously good!

Absolutely, I actually restored a few snares during lockdown as a bit of a time killer and I had an Acrolite and a Super Sensitive through... I probably should have just kept one.
Yellow one is an Acrolite, red one is Super Sensitive and the green one is a Sonor Force 505 (nothing special but it was the first one I did for a practice run) and a few before photos of the Ludwigs.

Any suggestions for a reasonably priced crash? I don't really have the vocabulary to explain it but I'm after something quite splashy. I used to have a Dream Bliss something or other that sounded amazing for the price. I might just get another one of those but it's always fun to try something new out. My current crash is actually a very thin, cracked ride. It sounds great but it's on it's way out.

Bought some sticks yesterday and booked my first lesson for next week totally inspired by this thread probably a mid life crisis and hopefully cheaper than a 911

there is a studio in Brockley (brockley studios) that I use, room hire with backline on a weeknight is very reasonable.
https://brockleystudios.co.uk/The place is a terraced house. Mental soundproofing. Neighbours don't even know.

something smaller/thinner, perhaps like this?

maybe pop along to Drumshack in Battersea/Clapham - they've been great in the past for me with a decent selection of 2nd hand cymbals - obvs you may or may not get lucky, but nothing better than being able to try stuff out in person.
edit: they've got one of these in stock - £109, sounds quite nice to me:

I got my cymbals from a Chinese manufacturer called Aisen, they're unbelievably cheap and the person I dealt with, Jerry, was truly excellent. Great communication and service.
I'd recommend them if you fancy trying something different and the cymbals are actually very good! DM me if you want the contact... -

Enjoy!! Are you doing in-person lessons? I'm not fully vaccinated yet so I don't want to cram myself into a tiny room with a breathing germsack teacher (and I hate video conf), so I've been doing Drumeo instead. I'm sure I'll have a shitload of bad habits I need to fix later 😅

Amazing! It's so rewarding to go from total beginner to being able to actually just sit down and have a knock about.

I'm playing a gig in Bristol tonight, decided to bring my new (to me) double pedal along, despite not having had a chance to use it yet. Should be fine right? I can't be any worse than I was with it's replacement anyway.

I’m gonna have a one to one once a month and hire the practice rooms in between to work on the exercises I’m given so most of my playing will be solo and my aim is just to learn to play and enjoy it , it’s really because the facilities are on my doorstep

Not a drummer but obsessed with drumming and drums because hip hop/sampling
What are actual drummer's opinions of JD Beck and his dungarees? I followed him on YT and Insta for ages and now he's playing with Herbie Hancock and got an album out with Domi.

only really seen this vid (would very much recommend the whole Zildjian Live series) - seems brilliant!

i'm a metalhead at heart, so can't really speak to the nuances of jazz/fusion/funk drumming to be honest.
here's another drummer that's not my usual thing, but i really love:

Does anyone have a use for a fairly old, fairly knackered Iron Cobra double pedal? I've replaced/upgraded most of the bearings recently but it still doesn't play great. Works fine as a single but a bit janky as a double, maybe good for a learner?
Just asking for a forum donation if you can pick up from SE20. -

JD beck is great. He’s got a unique sound no one else is really doing atm, which I’m all for.
Also Richard Spaven as you posted above is seriously heavy - again a unique sounding player. Went through a big phase checking him out a few years back. Here’s a favourite:
Despite liking these guys I’m more into pocket players myself. Homer Steinweiss of Daptone being my current favourite!

I’m keen on giving drumming a go. Does anyone know a teacher in SE?
I’ve contacted 3 people I’ve found online but none of them are teaching at the moment. -

RE: Greg Saunier, this might be my favourite drumming vid on YT.

Ludwig Acrolite or a 400 would be great. 2 of the most recorded snares in history.
Plenty of them around, new or used and great in every genre.
