  • I can't find a thread on electric bike conversions; I went all the way to the second page of multiple search results. Is there one?

I need to convert my ageing father's hybrid. And yes I have offered him a bunch of granny gears but he's decided on electric.

  • I think it's not much more than low-ish grade isopropanol.

Seems to be mostly acetone and/or heptane now that they have effectively banned chlorinated solvents from retail products.

I suspect that ultrasonic is a better plan than going down a solvents rabbit hole.

  • Get him a Swytch, job done.

  • you attract these people

  • There are cans of spray brake cleaner you can get for the car, but I think it's not much more than low-ish grade isopropanol.

The stuff I use (£1 a can from the local discount shop) is a mixture of heptane and methanol. It's definitely more aggressive than IPA.

As an alternative to a hub motor it's worth looking at a Bafang BBS01b kit. Pretty easy to retrofit to a standard frame by all accounts, although I've not tried it myself. Yet.

  • We did a couple of BB mounted bafangs, one held up pretty well on a heavily loaded big dummy for quite a while.

  • It's happened before. Very very similar. Think it was a brownie. Pre-pandemic so then it was a different degree of crazy. I think I 'live tweeted' but have since deleted my twitter account so can't verify. But brownie-lady definitely got out some disinfectant spray and cleaned her tray before the act, whereas this loon just went for it despite the mask/visor combo giving the illusion of caring about hygiene.

  • Where can I get a thru axle with the following specs:

    100x15mm, 1.5 thread pitch, 120mm length

    ...ideally in silver?

    Proving hard to find...

  • There's something with the catchy name "the Robert axle project"which seems to do most axles.

  • Already tried, no luck... closest they do is 125mm length.

Would I be dieded if I had a 5mm washer made to fit under the lip of the non-threaded end?

  • 125mm axle won't fit sadly...

  • It doesn't have enough thread?
You would be fine with a washer to answer the question above

  • 2022-23 parliament session.

  • What is the easiest way to restore yellowed chairs to white again? Soaking in hydro peroxide might be a bit difficult due to the size of the shells

maybe you can take it a paste and wrap in cling film?

  • Wrapping in cling film might be my best bet, but the chairs are made of polypropylene. Do you know if PP and ABS behave the same regarding H2O2?

  • I dont sorry, id test on a small area on the underside first to be sure.

  • Sydenham Hill - can you use the footbridge at the station to cross the railway rather than to access the platforms? Also is Low Cross Wood Lane through the woods publicly accessible? I don't mind walking the bike, just not sure if it's open.
Looking for a route E-W in that area which isn't the South Circular or going up Crystal Palace.

  • Not sure on the bridge or Low Cross Wood but I've walked Rock Hill before. It's a bit steep though, so slidey in harder shoes.

  • Sydenham Hill - can you use the footbridge at the station to cross the railway

    Yes.

Also is Low Cross Wood Lane through the woods publicly accessible?

    Yes. No cycling.

  • In a Victorian terraced house:
I have an interior wall I want to remove. It’s brick.
The wall directly above it is stud and definitely not load bearing. The upstairs joists run parallel with the wall I want to remove so I assume it’s not bearing load from them. Is it, therefore not load-bearing?
