  • Question - I remember someone posting a trailer for a documentary on Pro Cycling due out later this year (I think it may have been documenting the 2009 TdF...). My Google skills obviously suck because I can't find anything on it...

Does anyone know what I'm on about here?

  • What does it mean to have a referral? I see that I have got one on my statistics page.

  • Isn't it illegal to catch mice and then release them? Don't you have to destroy them 'cos they're vermin?

It means that someone said they'd heard of the forum from you when they joined.

  • Looks like here...

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?client=safari&q=camberwell+new+road&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Camberwell+New+Rd,+London+SE5,+United+Kingdom&gl=uk&ei=A-zuS4-vNob00gTIoajfBw&ved=0CBoQ8gEwAA&z=16&layer=c&cbll=51.479897,-0.107325&panoid=CtePKAennaa9EgxmmnNEZw&cbp=12,68.19,,0,5

^ hope this works, it's the estate just off the Camberwell New Road.... on the way to, er, Camberwell....

Ah, Cheers. What made you think it was there? The building in the background?

Anyway its only about 5 minutes away so I might roll down and have a look.

I once met a girl that caught them in her tenement in Edinburgh ("mice" is a standard topic of conversation at parties up there, on a par with "so... what are you studying?" and "cold weather we're having, isn't it?"). When I asked how she got rid of them outside of the three mile exclusion zone, she breezily said "Oh, that's easy. I just take them to lectures and I release them there."

When I asked her how she got them to lectures, she told me that she took them in her pocket, on the bus. Fair enough.

  • My flatmate flushed ours. She seemed to believe it was like a big waterslide and they'd just end up growing up to be proper sewar rats when they got down the drain pipe. Sweet.

As far as I know, it's illegal to catch and release alien species, such as mitten crabs and signal crayfish, perhaps even mink. Mice are a native species, so I don't think it matters. Depends where you release them, of course. Old people's homes are probably considered off side...

  • why do i find cars and lorries so intimidating?

  • why do i find cars and lorries so intimidating?

Perhaps because you need to be more aware that they're all driven by people, with whom it's generally possible to interact on a person-to-person basis rather than bike-to-motor vehicle basis?

The thread that Balki links to obviously contains a lot of discussion on this (as do various others). The advice to do cycle training is not to blame you or to pretend that motorisation is harmless, but to help you enjoy your riding more. Cycle training is highly recommended for any rider of any level of experience.

    That does make me laugh.

  • look 'em hard in the eyes and it's them who start feeling intimidated

I wasn't implying this at all...

I know, it's just that it can come across like that. Should have made that clearer.
