Where do slugs go during the day?
Take my dog out into the garden for a pre-bed piss, and there are always loads of fat slugs on the grass, that I need to make sure he doesn't eat.

wherever birds can't see them

Damp places like under rocks so they don't dry out

What is this mixer shower unit called. The mixer is fucked and needs replacing as it is letting cold water into the hot water system.

Has he ever tried to eat one? My dog would sniff them and move on, never seemed to think of eating one. Other dogs' shits on the other hand...
We had a big stainless dog bowl under the outside tap which was always topped up. I used to wash it out frequently as slugs and snails gotta drink too. -

Usually referred to as a shower tower I believe.

Where do slugs go during the day?
Somewhere cool, like grass lawns, or water butts, or New York clubs where you gotta know somebody to get in.

If I loose a £1 coin I loose a £1 but does the Government win?
I can remember when notes used to say “I promise to pay the bearer the sum of £1” so I guess the Exchequer wins if this promise is removed but it can’t work out why. -
• #109614
Sterling isn't backed by gold reserves anymore so "promise to pay the bearer" is no longer relevant. (As far as I understand anyway)

If I loose a £1 coin I loose a £1 but does the Government win?
The value is still in the economy, somewhere, even if the £1 coin has been physically lost. It’s what the coin represents that has value, not the physical thing itself (although the metal and labour to make it might have a nominal value). The government reprints fiat to cover estimated destruction of physical money, but they don’t keep the value. Although I guess they do get to decide where the value goes, whether to banks or to its budget, so maybe they do win?

The promise to pay the bearer on notes still has some relevance. The Bank of England will exchange the no longer current five pound note you find down the back of the sofa for a current one.
The same isn't true for a round pound coin, the Royal Mint doesn't have to that for a 12-sided one. Apparently you can still exchange round pounds via a high street bank but I'm not sure about large 50ps etc.

Who are you throwing coins at?
-
• #109618
Always worth trying old coins in vending machines or parking meters, some still take the round pounds.
BITD I got rid of a load of old 50ps in phone boxes as they still accepted the big boys (when phone calls were a thing and mobiles were less common)

If I loose a £1 coin I loose a £1 but does the Government win?
Yes, but not the whole £1, and it's the bank of issue which wins. In England as in most countries, the sole bank of issue is nationalised and the currency is fiat issue with the seignorage accruing to the national exchequer.
Assuming the coin is permanently lost or destroyed, the mint makes another one which costs a few pence and sends it to the bank of issue, which then puts it into circulation by buying commercial or government paper. The bank now has the paper it bought with the original £1 and the paper it bought with the replacement £1. There has been no increase in the money supply, so the new coin doesn't generate inflation. The profit to the treasury is the difference between the face value of the coin and the cost of manufacturing and issuing it. -

Quick Question on fleeBay - Whens the best time to list to minimise the fees?
*probably wrong thread, or at least not the best.
Fees seem insane, but i am under the impression that they sometimes do special listing fees or something...
Any help appreciated

On the app I often get a pop up offering "£1 maximum sellers fee". It does seem totally random though and you just have to keep an eye on it popping up.
-
• #109623
There will often be £1 fee periods, but I'm not sure when they will be.
-
• #109624
The special offers are invite only and much less frequent than they used to be.

I like the look of this but don't like the price. Anyone seen anything similar but cheaper?

It is, but the Covid requirements don't really add significantly to the general PITAness of it, IME. Not at present anyway. It's just extra paperwork and some forms to fill in, and extra expense. Actually, yeah, it is a PITA, I'm in denial.
