Thanks for the info. I have the washers and it seems to work.

I have a cannondale M1000 which I realised too late takes a 1 1/4 headset.. I would like to use 1 1/8 Threadless forks .. what is my best headset option for this please. I believe King devolution might perform the task but my budget is more in the ratbike bracket

Took it round to SBC. Jamie and team sorted it in less than half a day- frankly unreal given how busy they must be.
Amazing service as always from those guys.
Just waiting on the appropriate Slice forks and a groupset and she's a go-er. -

You can get head tube shims to enable using a 1 1/8 headset and forks, I used them on an old alpine stars frame.

Thanks both for suggestions.. headset reducers look ideal because I already bought a headset.. that’s when I realised it was 1 1/4

Cheers. I've just dropped you a pm.

I’m on the hunt for a new armchair with a footstool. I fully expect to spend weeks searching and then just buy the omnipresent Ikea Poang, but need to try first.
Basically what I’m looking for is somewhere between this:
https://www.made.com/paxton-reclining-accent-chair-pewter-textured-weave
And this
https://www.dunelm.com/product/arkin-wooden-frame-accent-chair-grey-1000134682
I like the second one more, but the downside for me is the wooden arms and open sides. So I guess my ideal one is the top one on the base of the second one, and that doesn’t cost more than about £300.
I expect this leaves me with hoping to get lucky on eBay, but would appreciate any other suggestions.

That's what I hear.
Just impressed with the speed and ease.
Now the challenge is getting across to pick it up. -

General welding advice required please.
I was considering buying a little inverter welder as I need to weld a couple of little jobs, one thin (1mm) tubing job and one with 3mm mild to a fence. My question do inverters work well with low power and thin rods.
Thanks -
• #102589
How well can you weld? I'm not very good but have a pretty good inverter welder.
With a bit of warm up practice I'd make a good job of the 3mm mild to fence but probably burn big holes through the 1mm stuff.
I have done 1-1.5mm stainless exhaust tubes but wouldn't trust the strength of the weld

it's a
https://www.weldequip.com/parweld-xti161.htm
Which appears to cost £300 and has pretty good reviews which makes me feel even worse about my welding ability.
It replaced a cheap Machine Mart one that didn't have a fan and overheated continuously.

Go for something that allows the maximum variety in your position. Contoured chairs tend to put you in one that is initially comfortable but can degrade quickly, that was my experience with the Ekornes chairs anyway.

• #102593
I know you said the arms aren't ideal, but the Ikea Ekenäset's basically the same as that Dunelm chair. There's now a matching footstool available; the combo would give you change from £300.

Last night I dreamt that I witnessed Tim Henman setting a water speed record in a very fast boat. What is my subconscious trying to tell me?
-
• #102595
I have this problem with an Ercol armchair I have. Sitting in anything other than one position, which is comfortable most of the time, is awkward. This is especially noticeable when I'm really tired and am reclining more, or want to sit at a different angle for whatever reason.
-
• #102596
Thanks for that. Definitely one to consider. As with the Ercol chair I mention, the wooden arms can be uncomfortable if sitting at a different angle or slouching. I should go and try it, though. On the plus side, the arms are not going to wear through or stain.

38 minutes ago and nothing? This place.

That your sleeping brain cannot differentiate between Tim Henman and Donald Campbell?

I probably can't compete with your order volumes, but I have to say that over the last couple of years I've had the complete opposite experience with SJS. Always received whatever I ordered within 3 days.
I ordered the front mech shim from SJS on Sunday, paid £3.50 for the shim and £3.50 for delivery of said shim. They won't have seen it until Monday morning of course, which given that I have (in the past few seconds) received the "we've just posted it" email suggests that it's taken them three entire days to find the shim, put the shim in an envelope, and then hand the envelope to their courier company of choice. Who fucking knows how long the courier will now take to deliver it. I really wish I'd not ordered from them as the speed with which they handle this sort of thing is very frustrating. Hey ho, it's not that I didn't know they were shit at being a mail order business so it's my own fault. Fuck SJS though.

SJS are awesome. No-one else can be bothered to stock and list the obscure and small bits they have and I've always had quick delivery from them. Everyone has longer lead times with staffing issues and increased orders at the moment.
Bought second hand and the original owner has lost it.
@MrE yes, totally would - didn’t realise they were 13mm - great shout. Think I have one knocking about
