Thanks for the advice!
I still haven’t turned it on but it’s sounding more and more of a dud. I thought it might be fun to have a go on logic and stuff, have a dedicated ‘creative’ machine.
Not sure I can justify keeping it.

Why does snow look more dense IRL then thru a lens or a photograph?
Here is a good explanation: https://youtu.be/ywGLrg1HOS4

if you've filled the freewheel regularly with oil then it might cause the pawls to stick so they no longer engage with the teeth
https://www.missionbicycle.com/how-do-freewheels-work
of course, it might be borked and need replacing but it's a possibility.

Yeah someone mentioned that it even was (is) a thing with bmxers to run with dry freewheels because they're louder.

Morgan blue...city and touring oil
It's a chain oil, very likely designed with additives to reduce fling. That makes it sticky, so it stops your pawls from moving into engagement. You need to flush it out with solvent and use the right oil for the job.

There's a website that lists diameters and stuff for every conceivable size of wheel and tyre, anyone know what it is?Nevermind, its Bikecalc.

@mdcc_tester What would be the best alternative to Royce's anti shake thread lock stuff.. Loctite purple?

What would be the best alternative to Royce's anti shake thread lock
A properly designed bottom bracket.
While you're waiting for that, the description on the Royce site does make it sound like buying Loctite 222 for half the price will be a good substitute. The most surprising thing is that they're only charging double.

Out of curiosity tester, in about 1982 I bought a Royce ti bottom bracket and 56 ring believing the hype. Was I a credulous fool, or was there any value in their claims beyond bling?

Out of curiosity, do you still use it?

I have more chance of becoming Pope than shifting 56x12-17. I still have a Royce ti BB in a bike from about 2004, it seems faultless to me, but what do I know?

16 years riding the same bb has to be worth some kind of office in the church.

In 2004, Shimano launched 7800 with HT2. I'm not sure why anybody would have wanted to pay more for square taper than whatever a UN55 costs once that happened.
I still have a CQP Ti BB from 1993, it's technically a superior design to Royce, but still just a square taper axle in industrial cartridge bearings. Since they didn't exist in 1982, I'll concede that there might have been some value in getting the Royce back then, especially if you'd just snapped your Gen1 Super Record 🙂
was there any value in their claims beyond bling?
Royce have always been a jewellery business rather than a performance bike brand, but now they're a retro style brand too. Their product design, web site and, judging by the pricing, production methods are all firmly stuck in the 20th Century. I never thought they had anything of interest to me in the 90s, and they certainly don't now that they're more than two decades behind the times.

16 years riding the same bb
He didn't say he's ridden it, just that he possessed it 🙂
My dad was still riding my old beater Hirame from 1985 earlier this year, with the original FAG plastic cartridge BB

yeah yeah

Interesting.
Whats better designed, a royce or hope ti bb.. or neither? Is there even much of a design difference?
Also, What could be causing the creaking and why would I not get any creaking from a hope ti bottom bracket (no lockring version) installed on another bike?

What is this? Grew on a tree. Not ripe either.

Mash these down and you’ll get the right oil
-

what is the right oil to use?
I'd try sewing machine oil
-

Is there even much of a design difference?
No
What could be causing the creaking
Poor tolerance match between the shell and cup threads

The Royce ti BB was actually a replacement for a Royce steel one which broke. Descending Death Hill past Brands Hatch in a club evening 10 with a chainset dangling from my Cinelli M71 is not something I will forget easily! I made it clear to their MD that it was about to become bad publicity and he instantly replaced steel with ti (he blamed crystallized metal if I remember correctly). I sold that bike in 85 for house deposit money and still wish I hadn't.
The current one has probably done 20,000 miles without a murmur, on 4 Continents, whilst being ridden by 1 incontinent.

Unripe cucamelon perhaps? Though they're more vine than tree.

Is your rear wheel axle/QR done up tight enough? :)
Morgan blue. Think it's also called city and touring oil.
