  • . . . but burn/bubble/lift/mark the paint ?

    (that's a question).

No, becasue R500s are not painted, they are anodised.

  • Maplins do a label remover (you) aerosol

  • have you tried lighter fluid as recommended?
once the film is off it should soak in nicely, let it loosen the glue, scrape it off then rub off the residue. works on most sticky labels and it's cheap.

  • From the sound of it, persistence is the key. Or do like I did. Ride them in cyclocross for 3yrs and the come off nice and easy.

  • I'll get some lighter fluid on the way home tomorrow then and try that.

  • Leave the bike in the bath overnight, with the labels submerged.

  • Next question:

My Shimano M182's are getting very tatty and rather smelly, despite being rather beaten up they're still like slippers comfort wise I'd like to replace them with something as good if not better. I was thinking of getting the new versions, Shimano M183's has anyone tried them?

  • Not tried those specific shoes but I find nearly all Shimano shoes comfortable. Those and DMT's

Why don't they use this type of holder in UK keirins?

It's always a right faff holding up 90kg of sprinter on a wooden track with no space to spread your feet for stability

  • Why don't they use this type of holder in UK keirins?

Because JKA Keirin is run on big tracks, giving them twice as long to clear the starting equipment off the track into the more spacious infield. Oh, and they do it much more often, making investment in this kind of gear worthwhile.

  • how do they get the spare ribs out without killing the cow/pig?

  • I am wiring phone and internet at home, using both cat5 cable and phone cable together (30meters of the CAT5 came with the BT installation, as I did not want them to stapple cables onto architraves and skirting boards, I am doing the wiring myself, concealing the cables into the floor/joists between the ground and 1st floor)

Could someone knowing about this stuff confirm that I can use extension plugs like these:

    With the following diagram:

At the moment I have a cat5 cable running randomly in the stair to the study where the BT modem / server are installed. But I want to be able to install it either in the other bedroom or living room in the long term, same for phones (wireless stations, one master, one slave)

    Thanks for your expertise!

    L

  • I think the blue should be phone cable, not cat 5? What are you connecting the green to?

I don't think you need two wires. That is an extension socket with a built in filter, so all it does (AFAIK) is provide a filtered telephone socket for ADSL use. You need one wire to extend your line to each socket, but you'll only be using one modem I presume? So you need 3 normal phone sockets and one of the ADSL/phone sockets in the study.

You can't plug in more than 4 phones (I think that includes modems) as they will suck too much power, but if you have a phone in each + a modem you should be ok, I think. Google REN count / limit for more info.

  • You forgot the magnets too

  • Long Lost song, how to convey in the written word...

Years ago at Caister Soul Weekenders they used to play a song which given it's repetition in the chorus, I imagine is called 'Circles'. The next line is 'around me', repeat in full until verse. There was a dance move upon which hundreds of people would turn in a circle whilst doing a circle with their index finger in the air. It was veh cool.

Who is this song by please?

  • I've just received a bill from Thames water from a shared house I lived in over 7 years ago when I was a student.

I am sure it was all paid up and this bill is over £300. Do I have to pay it as I have no way of proving I paid it and 7 of us was living in the house at the time!

  • I think the blue should be phone cable, not cat 5?

    Oops, just amended that...

What are you connecting the green to?

To the master socket DSL output. At the moment, our phone is connected to the phone output of that plug, and the BT modem to the DSL output.

I don't think you need two wires.

I suspected that, but since I had free 30m of CAT5, and also needed to close the ceilings / floors boards before finalizing the installation (this bit is not reversible), I ran it along with the phone extension cable, even if ultimately I need only the later. I also thought it could be usefull to have it ready just in case.

    Thanks for that!

I think I follow that.Yes there will be only one modem, however, I wanted to have the option (by using permanent wall mounted DSL filtered / phone sockets everywhere) of installing the modem anywhere I want, in case we want to swap study / bedroom at some point, or if there is no more study, but 2 bedrooms, to have the modem in the living room... Apart from having to buy more of these sockets (they are £15 each, I only need 2 as a spare one was also provided by BT at installation) is that possible?

Only one phone will be connected, at one of these 3 points. It is a small flat so we can get away with one main station with cordless unit and one satellite else where, radio connected to the first one, and that only need a power socket to its base. Without going for 4 phones, could we at least have another one (2 in total)

    Thanks again for your answer!

Are you definitely sure that you rang them to advise of moving out?
You would have to pay it if you can't prove you don't owe it. best bet is to ring them to ask when the account was closed and get the date amended if it is incorrect (may need to send in a tenancy/ get the landlord to confirm when you left).

Unfortunately they can chase only one person if they so wish, so if you do owe it you need to to try and contact your other housemates to cough up the amount they owe.

  • Over 6 years? Has anyone, in that time, said they acknowledge the debt?

Deny the debt, point out that the Limitations Act 1980 applies, and tell them to whistle.

Not sure but this is the first time I've heard from them - not even sure the bill was in my name!

    or this ^^^

  • Write back, denying that there is any amount owed, and that this is the last you expect to hear from them on this matter.

Will do - cheers for the advice.

  • I'm cooking a roast dinner for a veggie on Thursday night and have decided to make the best nut roast on earth. Veggies...whats your favourite nutroast recipe?

  • There's so many to chose from. I had a lentil roast last night but that probably doesn't quite fit the bill. I could get you some of my mothers' recipes if nobody else comes up with anything.

  • I got bored of nut roasts about 6 months after becoming vegetarian. I much prefer something involving puff pastry (the filling can be similar to a nut roast, nice with lentils and mushrooms)

So in your part of the BT master socket you have a filter, and the blue and green lines come from the the two out channels from the filter? If so, you shouldn't need any more filters - they'd just degrade the signal. All the other sockets should just be plain sockets with no active components in them.

But, for best ADSL performance, you should put your modem right next to the master socket, plugged straight into the ADSL side of the filter, with no other wiring on that side of the filter to pick up interference. Then use network cables spread the connection around the house (RJ45).
