People who have an illness should be encouraged to help themselves get better. If they are fat to the point of being unhealthy then they should be encouraged to lose weight.
I don't disagree with this and I don't see how making abuse of fat people illegal would stop doctors from talking about weight loss, exercise, and healthy eating, as ways to deal with obesity for the sake of the health of their patients. I really think what's being disputed here is that calling someone who's overweight a 'fat lazy fuck' who needs to 'lay off the pies' is really going to help them in any way other than send them straight to the fridge.
'If' and knowing it's a really big 'if' from knowing the media, this group of people want some sort of 'special treatment' because they're overweight then this is preposterous. But, it being OK to call them fat lazy cunts is equally preposterous. Abuse is abuse.

Even when I was actually a lot fittier than I was now, but playing American Football with the London Olympians, a doctor said I was vastly obese.
American football, you get fat just watching it.

..............it is an offensively stupid idea,
but because it cheapens the harm done by racism. And fat people deserve it.
Chris, there is a time to put up (something I don't think you could ever do), and shut up.
What the EF.YOO.CEE.KAY. do you know about racism, apart from reading about Rosa Parks? You seem to be terminally insensitive to those very different from you. I'm sensing that your romancing the racism card, actually tells much more about you.....as Shakepeare knew so well. [ ***.........dost protest too much methinks. ***] A sign of things being quite different to what is being spoken.
How can someone who likes cakes and chocolates, and chooses to look differently to what others wish, be deserving of public ridicule? Once past a tipping point, the body begins to maintain a new status quo. It is intolerably difficult to return to a long-lost much smaller weight, due to the feeling of starvation - which is how diets feel. Exercise can be fun, sure......but the dieting makes life a misery. And do you know the number one unprescribed "drug" that many reach for when their mood needs a lift.....funnily enough, its chocolate.

This is utter nonsense fella. The media is as much a reflection of the masses as it is a projection.
Well, this is your opinion. I'm not sorry for either fat or skinny, but there's another side to this argument where skinny people are being abused by fat people.
It all depends what magazines/newspapers one is reading and which shops visits... Topman isn't for me since I turned 17. My wife can't find anything in Tesco, because most items are size 12 up.
People can stay whichever shape they like as long as they're healthy and are comfortable with it. The rest depends also strongly on aesthetics carried by majority of certain nations and ethic groups. -

Fact: Obese people have never been kidnapped, sold and forced to work for free just because they are obese.
Fact: There are multiple examples of exactly the above happening to people based on race or ethnicity alone, and it continues to happen to this day.
Fact: Obese people have never been rounded up and executed for being obese
Fact: Throughout history people have been rounded up and executed for their race or ethnicity. This continues to this day
Ergo racism a whole lot worse then obesity.
Your right about the rest, I am kind of being a prick.

You're very right, it doesn't say anything about stopping doctors in the article. I was picking up on what someone said in the thread then.

Chris I have experienced racism here in the UK (in jobs), in Canada (when simply walking down a street), and in America (where I had to jump into a river to get away from rednecks in a pickup truck). I'm pretty up to speed with the whole racism thing, thanks. And I still feel STRONGLY that verbal predjudice against the fat, can be just as harmful. I'm black. And I'm fat. Differently to most, I'm really comfortable as I am, but not all are. If I feel that they are similarly hurtful and destructive, doesn't my life experience count for something?

Chris Crash, just shut the fuck up, you cunt.
Not everyone overeats to become fat. Some of it can be poor diet, due to medications, genes ongoing, not fucking 3 buckets of KFC's all the fucking time -

I'm chilled as a cucumber Ironman, I've just said my (3rd chicken) piece and will ignore whatever else he has to say. :)
Really? Even when they came in for a toothache, or a gash to the hand? Because this is exactly what happens. I'm telling you that as a fact, because its happened to me several times. Even when I was actually a lot fittier than I was now, but playing American Football with the London Olympians, a doctor said I was vastly obese. This was going by the scale to stood on, and NOT by taking my blood pressure, or asking me about my exercise regime (pretty rigourous at that time). Its a blind and naked asssumption, based on an inbuilt predjudice......not science. I know many people that this happens to also.
I mean, just imagine it...you go to the doctors for an ingrown toenail, or loss of hair (MPB), and his first words are......."Have your thought of losing some weight"? Even though he is holding your patient notes open is his hands.....which actually details the nature of your (totally weight-unrelated) complaint.
No its not. Certainly not always, and there are esteemed geneticists that would lose patience trying to explain their medical findings to you.......since you would not be capable of understanding them......not even wishing to. A closed mind must be a wonderful thing. I close mine sometimes as well, so its probably more common than it should be.
