  • Call me a tent noob, but typical operating temp means napping inside it at 5c without becoming a human popsicle right? So it can operate below that if you get stuck somewhere you don't want to be?

  • I like zippers. Means you can use your bag as a blanket when it gets hot.

  • That.....actually makes a hell of a lot of sense and other manufacturers ratings a bit redundant.

    @hippy You haz PM

  • Got my criterion bag this week. It packs small!

Tested out the neoair xlite and it was a bit like sleeping on a crisp packet! So I couldn't decide ... I've always had a prolite (got rid of when I moved to U.K.) but not with the intention of bike packing...

  • I hope this is acceptable.
A bivvy bag you can get away with not having a sleeping bag?
Or I guess a waterproof breathable SB.
Its just I have my eye on a BB that will compact much smaller than most SBs seem to.
    Summer uses obv.

  • You can get away without a sleeping bag in any. It depends on temp and your sensitivity to it.

None of my bivvying involved sleeping bag.

  • Ok. I kinda thought that. Cheers H.
I normally take a SB, dig a trench and keep the fire going, but thats getting pissed baht'at for one night or being 14 behind kwik save.
I'm trying to plan a longer excursion for the summer next year.
Doubt we'll get away with fires...

  • Trying this for a cheap(er) sleeping mat. Not slept on it yet but folds down small

  • Can anyone 6foot4+ recommend a bag? Or make you find fits well?
I have two snugpaks that are just a bit short that I will pass to the kids.
Any giants found something comfy? I don't remember my army issue one being bad but then I thought that was snugpak for some reason

  • Rab will put in extra baffles for about £30 last time I got it done. Alternatively phd will do anything.

  • I'd 2nd the Phd, they're stuff is the best you can get really.

  • For info: At weekend I tried bivvy only with light down jacket & just silk liner & running leggings for bottom half. Was fine until breeze picked up then the air was cooling wherever legs met bivvy. Top half was fine but didn't offset cold legs enough to get quality kip.

  • ^ On that thought, what's good in the world of half bags or blankets at the mo?

  • PHD here too...I'm planning to get a custom half bag from them soon to go with my down jacket.

  • good to know, cheers

  • PHD looks ideal, my budget less though. The OMM 1/2 bag might be enough for what i'd be using it for... there's the buy cheap buy twice dilema though!

  • Chak disappeared off the radar so I've still got an unused PHD Minimus 200 for sellz. See last page.

  • V.interested but I'm probs too tall for it. My partner might be interested but sleeps cold and looking for lower rated bag. I'll mention to her and then let you know...

  • I have standard length with hindsight I probably would have gone for a long.

still very very happy with my criterion ultralight.

  • Ta for info, good to know. Is it getting much use in NZ?

  • yep! had them out for a couple of nights in yosemite and then ~90 nights here march to june

  • Any small pack/lightish sleeping bags for sale around here. Budget of £100. Would need postage and I'm going away next weekend vso mini rush job. Anything going?
