This is my first post. May I ask this is not restricted to road bikes only is it? I have a MTB that I have recently bought, and I am not very fast so I don't think I can do the distance with a very fast pace.

Maybe I can do about 10 MPH because I have not done more than 3 miles before.

I'm out... 113. With icey conditions a ride of this number is too risky for me. But have fun those of you brave enough to do it.

everyone is invited to ride but please bear in mind that the pace is a little faster outside central london and the ride can take up to 3-4 hours depending on stoppages for punctures and food etc.

If you haven't done more than 3 miles before this ride might be a bit much, as the route is about 22 miles + whatever distance you have to cycle to get there/home....

I don't want to be part of any attempt for a "most riders taken down in a single crash" award. My bets are on Millenium Bridge or Putney Bridge.

seriously considering emmigrating to a commonwealth country though.

After the last ride a month ago in the rain that i did, only about 20% of the people listed will turn up if its adverse weather

Wow I didn't even think about how long it would take. What speed do you think is average outisde and inside? I have only ever ridden to work and home when I bought mny bicylce. I haven't had any punctures yet, fingers crossed.

I was thinking to take my bicycle on the train because I live in Hackney and riding to the start location looks about 15 miles from me as a guess when looking at the map. Yes it does seem quite a difficult journey for me. Perhaps I should start small alone and look at these rides when I get fitter.

Can the relevant locals confirm the state of the less well travelled roads and that park bit between Hammersmith and Chiswick?

I'm so concerned about the weather. I just don't want the bigger boys to bully me.

In particular:
from Barnes Bridge along The Promenade to Corney Reach Way and the little alley way at the end of Upper Mall that passes the pub and enters Furnival Gardens.

Needs be these can be routed around.

Everything else is on relatively well-travelled roads.

Bring warm gloves and alcohol.

where do I buy warm gloves? or should I just heat them on the radiator before I set out?

Bring kerosene.

I should certainly hope so, number one rule of riding on ice: always remember to lean

Do we lean backward? or forward? Can we do horizontal leaning??? Does the beer increase the leaning capabilities?
