make little difference, if drivers don't watch out for you, they won't see you regardless of what you're wearing.
I wear hi-viz gear about 30% of the time. If I do all I can to be seen, any accident is their fault - I did everything I could.
If I'm going out and I'm using the bike for transport, I'll stick the Northwave sleath-bicycle-shoes on (look like trainers) and normal looking cycling T-shirts, etc. If I'm just cycling from A to B with no intention of stopping, I'll usually use hi-viz. Particularly if it's gloomy/getting dark.
The way I see it, if I ever get knocked over whilst wearing hi-viz and my bike is lit up like a rave, they can't pull the "I didn't see you" line. And I can feel morally entitled to thump them, if they give me any gyp after the accident.
