some fellow named bill green is putting on a copycat bridges ride! good things about it: money going to a charity. bad things about it: money going to a christian charity.
i've been thinking a lot about stuff like this, especially since there have been about 20 copycat tweed runs around the world and a handful of new ones coming up. in most ways, i'm pretty cool with people using our ideas for formats. they're good ideas, and anything that gets people out on bikes is good. but then i also think that people should show a little initiative and creativity, you know? anyhow, i'm just rambling. your thoughts?

No-one owns the right to ride bicycles with friends on any public street.
I'm not even sure it's possible to copyright a route or to protect a ride in any way other than trademarking the name and logo for an event.
I am personally of the opinion that all rides should be encouraged. Regardless of who does them, what cause they're for, and who/what inspired them.
The only thing I feel that should be done is attribution and acknowledgement.
People should credit the source of an idea if they create a derivative.
People should credit the people that make an event work.In this view:
All of the tweed rides around the world should've credited you Ted. Some did, some didn't.
All rides organised via/because of LFGSS should've credited the community for helping to make it happen. So yeah I think it's cheeky for a bridges ride to appear without crediting mareeoh (for the 1st Bridges ride). And I think it's cheeky for them not to acknowledge the forum (for making the Bridges ride a huge event) and perhaps Ma3k for his incredible efforts each time one happens.
So I'm all cool from "owner of the forum" perspective about anyone doing anything... so long as it's credited.
Actually... look down at the bottom left. Since the forum's inception ALL posts made are licensed under a Creative Commons license:

the lopropoloco ride, route and date is, of course, not going to change, and if for some reason the routes clash then they will do so coincimentally.. and I would expect a cheery "good day" to be coming from the lo pro camp as the bridges ride will have enough to cope with trying to process what they are seeing..
blah blah.. they had a lo-pro walk years ago

Mareeoh hung his wheels up for camera and lense and phat ass boats.Sailing the cheese sea's taking pics of shiny happy people.
As his silent adviser, i suggested the Bridges ride to him.I got the idea from Cylcling plus forum which has since changed to bikeradar(i think).Im sure many a cyclist has used the bridges as training route even before the discussion on cycling plus forum.
well thats my 2cents and as War say Im off to slip into the darkness...

As others have pointed out, this isn't a Bridges Ride, more a Thames Path ride.
And yes, the idea of threading your way across all the bridges is fairly old. I'm sure I remember reading about such a ride in an old London Cyclist from the 90s. And all of these rides will vary somehow.
As an aside, I also heard from Karta Healey at the Cycle Show that he wants want to do a Victorian-themed ride, through TWOnFRO, his shop at 215 Westbourne Park Road. I think it was on the 31st October, but can't remember for certain. I think Karta is on here, too.

Tweed ride precursor...
I was aware of these guys for about 2 years before the "original" tweed ride......apart from number of participants, there's not that much difference is there?....according to VB's post should they not be credited....? I would not be surprised if there was not a precursor to them even....I can remember seeing Billy Childish riding around Soho in similar attire around 5 or 6 years ago.

An elephant with the penis of a mouse making love to a halibut, whist bungy jumping.
Not original... I've thought about this before.
EDIT: Actually, it wasn't a halibut, it was a cod. Apologies
