  • From Rebecca--sorry for posting the info about the workshop too late:

    Greetings cyclists, yogis and friends,

Hope this finds you enjoying the beginnings of Spring on the bike - my bikes are just enjoying the beginnings of a Spring clean!

A quick update. Bodywise will be staying at its current premises 'til at least end of May - hurrah! So the next YFC 7 week course will begin Thursday 5th April 7.30 - 9pm (ending 17th May). With another course very possibly to follow. More on that soon!

And the next workshop will be taking place Sat 24th March. Please see below for details:

YOGA FOR CYCLISTS WORKSHOP w/ Rebecca
    Sat 24th March: 2.30 – 5.30pm
    **£24 full/ £18 concession

** This open level workshop (some experience of yoga preferable but not essential) will be exploring **the ****iliopsoas. ****This pair of hip flexing muscles are often overlooked and yet essential to the action of cycling. We will be shedding some light on its location and function as well as learning how to release and lengthen them by practicing postures that open up the trunk and pelvis. **

Both the course and workshop will be taking place at Bodywise on 119 Roman road, E2 0QN (www.bodywisehealth.org). Please book with them directly.

Do forward on to anyone you think might be interested and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Hope to practice with you soon.

    Peas,

    Rebecca

  • Another update:

    Greetings cyclists, yogis and friends,

Hope this finds you and your wheels making the most of the sun!

Yet another update on Bodywise. The building owners have decided that they would like to use the space from mid-May. So, we will have one last course at the current premises. This will now be a 5 week course beginning this **Thursday 5th April 7.30 - 9pm, **ending 3rd May (please note earlier start time!).

The last YFC workshop to take place at the current premises will be Sunday 29th April 12 - 3pm. The theme is yet to be decided - will let you know in a week or so. As ever, suggestions/ requests welcome.

The current Bodywise team (consisting of yoga teachers and complimentary health practitioners) are searching for a new location and hope to have one by beginning of June. In the meantime though, it is likely there will be a break between this course (5th April - 3rd May) ending and the next one beginning in June.

Both the course and workshop will be taking place at Bodywise on 119 Roman road, E2 0QN (www.bodywisehealth.org). Please book with them directly. Please forward on to anyone you think might be interested and don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

As for YFC at DVC, there will be no classes on the 9th and 16th April. Not clear just yet when we re-start. Again, I will let you know as soon as this becomes clear. Apologies for the lack of future dates at the moment - many very recent changes to accommodate!

Hope to practice with you soon.

    Peas,

    Rebecca

  • I need to start doing it again. Need to increase my flex innit.

  • Lunchtime yoga from Rebecca:

I have just started teaching a new lunchtime class at OneYoga (1 Teesdale st. Shoreditch E2 6GF www.oneyogacentre.com). 'Tis a one hour class every** Friday at 1pm** which takes place in a lovely wee studio on a lovely wee street! There is a lunchtime class taught there every day at the same time and they are taught by excellent, highly experienced teachers. It is very reasonably priced if attended as an occasional drop-in - £8 full/ £5.50 conc. and a positively amazing deal if you acquire a monthly pass. The pass is £35 and means you can take as many lunchtime classes in a month as you like Mon - Fri. Even if you only take one class a week you've already saved money with it. If you take class Mon-Fri, you're paying less than £2 per class!

  • is swimming>yoga ?

  • And the latest Yoga for Cyclists news:

    1. Bodywise YFC classes shift to Kobi Nazrul Centre

The very good news is that after almost a year of uncertainty and rolling rental licenses in Roman rd, Bodywise have relocated at last to the Kobi Nazrul Centre http://www.towerhamletsarts.org.uk/?s=3&v=16&guide=AllAges at 30 Hanbury road, E1 6QR, just off Brick Lane. The less good news is that we can't start classes there 'til the week beginning 9th July. Class may also change time and day. Wednesdays 6.30 - 8pm is looking most likely at the moment. I hope this still works for most of you. As soon as this is confirmed, I shall update you.

    2. YFC at Hike and Bike the Borough - free event in South London

On Sunday 24th June, this annual event will be taking place - http://www.biketheborough.co.uk/ in South London. I will be there offering free taster warm-up sessions from about 10am onwards before the ride and cool-down sessions after the ride, from about 2pm onwards. In between I will be offering one-to-one advice for those with any wheeling woes (or not!).

    3. YFC workshop at Triyoga in Chelsea, West London

On Friday August 3rd, I will be teaching a two hour YFC workshop at Triyoga in Chelsea. http://www.triyoga.co.uk/book-courses-workshops?x=1&teacher=100000501. This is an introduction to YFC, so if you know any West Londoners who may be interested, please do let them know!

  • is swimming>yoga ?

Do you mean whether swimming is better than yoga? For cycling?

I couldn't possibly say--I like doing both. It seems a bit like comparing apples and oranges. Yoga does things that swimming doesn't do, and vice versa.

  • I've always been of the opinion that swimming is the perfect sport.
Never tried yoga. Maybe I should.

  • I gave up swimming after 25 minutes, but I still managed 90 mins of yoga.

  • can anyone recommend a yoga retreat in the UK in the 2nd half of august or beginning of september?

  • The teacher from my local yoga class is running this one mid August if that's any use. I would be going but I don't have any holiday left for this year :(.

  • frustratingly i need to be in london on 12th and 19th of August

how the devil are you? its been a long time

  • And the latest Yoga for Cyclists news:

Are these YfC classes suitable for beginners, and seeing as I've missed the one last night, do you need to attend a full course?

  • They're very suitable for beginners. It's the teacher's call whether you can start in the second week. Try checking with Rebecca if the Wednesday class has been confirmed; I don't think I've had another e-mail from her confirming it. (Her e-mail address is in the OP.)

  • thanks Oliver will do

  • DJ: That's a bummer about the dates.

Yeah, I've just been stupidly busy lately. And what weekends I have got free seem to go on climbing rather biking. I think I've only been out for two half day rides since March!

  • I can really recommend Rebecca's classes, I did the course maybe 5-6 months ago and am now hooked. I'd resided to the fact I was inflexible and would never touch my toes, not so!

  • Any links to a site with just each popsition explained/illustrated so i could possibly do a few at home in my own time? Used to do a bit of yoga and it worked wonders, i've since moved into Nottingham and can't find the time/a class that suits my timings work arrangements?
